1. I appreciate it when a song can really spook me, like a good horror film. U2 aren't particularly known as a "scary" band, as it's not typically what they aim for, but occasionally they do take you to those places. So I was wondering - which U2 song(s) do you all consider to be the scariest?

In general, I think U2's most unnerving music/lyrics comes from Boy. At the center of this is "An Cat Dubh". A dissonant, cycling guitar riff with bizarre guitar screeches and wails weaving around it create a warped 3 a.m. vibe. Bono's lyrics are kept vague enough to make it all even more unsettling. There's also that creepy chime/glockenspiel that plays right before he sings "she cat".

    What say you?
  2. Exit. Dark/scary on many levels.
  3. Acrobat is pretty eerie, as well.
  4. Scariest U2 songs?
I never get really scared listening U2, except when Bono had voice troubles
    Lol.
But, I choose "4th of July"
  5. If you count it, Corpse. Clanking chains + other creepy sound effects, and the eerie saxophone that sounds like a processed backing vocalist always gives me goosebumps.
  6. I've always found the intro of Zooropa quite scary. The listener is overwhelmed by so many messages, plus there are those bass notes that can resemble a heart beating. I mean, it's not really frightening but... disturbing, if you know what I mean

    +1
  8. My twothree cents: Sleep Like A Baby Tonight, Twilight, Tomorrow (the first half)

Totally agree about An Cat Dubh, it's eerie and ominous, and the ambiguous lyrics don't help either. I think we don't usually consider it creepy because it always segues to Into The Heart which is a much more accessible and friendly song, but An Cat Dubh is really dark.

And good point about the glockenspiel right before "she cat", it's lacking in the live versions of the song and it totally adds to the eerie feeling of the song.
  10. Exit and Acrobat are both dark , can't really think of any scary songs? Maybe Alex Descends into Hell for a Bottle of Milk Korova 1 because of the latin lyrics, bit of an Omen vibe going on.
  11. Speaking of Exit

“The U2 song "Exit" is played at the trial of Robert Bardo, who claims the song compelled him to kill the actress Rebecca Schaeffer.”
