1. Just wondering what U2's largest audience they've ever played to at one time was.

    Popmart Reggio Emilia?
    US Festival 1983?
    Glastonbury?
    Something else?

Must be Popmart Reggio Emilia, 11th highest attendance ever for any artist according to Wikipedia which I think leaves out free gigs though.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-attended_concerts

Just noticed my reading was lazy and there’s a list of highest attended free concerts on that same page but all estimations for them and no U2.
  3. Definitely Reggio Emilia, with 150.000 being the lowest estimation and 170.000 the highest one. Even greater if you think that at the time it was the 6th biggest concert ever held (excluding free ones)
  4. Rose Bowl 09 has to be in U2's top five attendance.
  5. I think it’s the highest for 360 anyway with the stade de France coming very close 2nd on that tour.
  6. not the largest ones, but the best crowd that U2 has ever played in front of was in Naples 1993 and East Rutherford 1985
  7. How exactly is that being calculated
  8. just listen to some tunes from the 2 shows the crowd was so loud it was perfect, you can feel their joy

For "proper" U2 tour shows, Reggio Emilia 97 with 150,000 and Madrid 87 with 120,000 are waaay above everything else.

For festivals, with or without U2 headlining, I'd say you hit the nail in the head with Glastonbury at around 190k (although it's debatable how many were actually seeing U2) and Devore at 125k.
  10. The recordings have a big impact on that. Soundboard recordings aren’t going to do the crowd justice so it can’t really be measured unless someone has attended every show and can speak from experience and even then different parts of the venue create different atmospheres, can’t be measured really.

Where did you get the Madrid 87 figure from? Haven’t seen any for that. Edit: had a look there and found 2 figures quoted, 115k and 100k for Madrid but no confirmed figures these are estimates. Think 100k+ though is fair so 2nd highest for tour shows but 3rd when we include Devore. I don’t think there’s a chance Glastonbury was played to 100k people despite the ticket numbers sold as you said not everyone was there to see U2 for starters.
