1. More like a state of confusion and indecision. Bono has said that good is the enemy of great but he (and more likely Edge) need to appreciate that perfect is the enemy of output.

In 9 years they released: Boy, October, War, UF, JT, Rattle and Hum

Are they taking their time or are they constantly re recording because they want to make hits?

Back in the 80s and 90s they had the record company breathing down their neck looking for product and the band has a lot to prove and we're extremely motivated to make a better Record each time ,also physical sales were at their peak for bands like U2 who were selling over 10 million now they'd be lucky to shift 2 million for a new release so their is probably nobody from the record company or management beating down the door telling them to hurry up .
  3. The Beatles contract stated a single every 3 months and an album every 6 months.I think we’ll have the entire Beatles discography in between ‘proper’ new albums from U2.The Beatles released their last 4 albums in the first 2 years of my life
  4. Different times

The Stones were doing that aswell in the 60s but their most recent album Hackney Diamonds was their first album of new material in 18 years ,also The Beatles stopped touring in 66 so they had a lot more time to record new music without having to tour but agree it's a pity U2 weren't more prolific especially in the last 2 decades.
  6. Lol it's funny that people are comparing U2 now (in their mid-60s) to artists in their 20s/30s (including U2 themselves).

Of course they'd have a different timeline. They all have families, other things going on, are no longer young men, etc. Not to mention the fact that creative/artistic pursuit was #1 on their priority list in their 20s and 30s and is probably like #58 these days.

Some of you guys would do well to basically forget about U2 until you hear something. I honestly think there's a pretty fair chance they never put out a new album, and I'd be happily surprised and interested if they do.

They just...don't need to anymore, and if I'm in U2 - I'm also asking that same question Bono always is: "why does anyone need another U2 album?" particularly after their last few didn't exactly catch the world on fire.
  7. On the other hand, lots of serious artists their age or older continue to work at a very respectable pace. Bob Dylan is basically always on tour (and has released loads of archival and new material since the last U2 album). Nick Cave has released some incredible studio and live albums since the last U2. Bruce Springsteen is always working and releasing new music. In other genres, poets, novelists, visual artists, and film makers often continue to work consistently into old age.

Granted, in U2 all four of them have to be equally committed to the work. It's pretty obvious that is no longer the case.

    Serious SOLO artists

Also, you forget Larry's surgeries and recovery.
  10. 100% convinced we’ll have more U2 albums released from them after they retire than we will have gotten while they were together lol
  11. I think we need to have a bit patience. I think it is very exciting that we could have an album in a year and have that fun time of rumors and leaks and singles etc. They started fresh last September so if they are done in December it only took a year and a half. I think we should be very excited

The other way around imo but well see...
