1. Please stop telling me to show you a good example of AI use in art - do a bit of research yourself as there's plenty of stuff out there

"How can AI "enhance creativity and forward thinking"? " again do some research - do you want me to take you by the hand? If you find nothing then you aren't looking in the right places

    I am a graphic artist, a web designer, a photographer, a videographer, a song-writer, a musician, a writer - need I go on to prove my stance?

You mention literature - I agree, people are thieving but to paraphrase Bono 'They're stealing from the thieves'. Of course I say that with my tongue firmly pressed inside my cheek but there is an element of truth in it also - and please don't ask me to explain that to you

Your man Shakespeare was a well-known plagiarist for one

And trust me you bardic tradition will never be under threat - well, I say that but the more AI learns then the better the results will be BUT this is where I agree that there needs to be legal regulation to separate the 'original' and the 'complied' for want of a better term

But my views on AI is it being used as a tool to aid a creative and not as a sole tool to extract ideas from others and exploit their work - though we have to admit that human plagiarism has done just that for 100s of years

My view is that a person who has an idea can use AI to expand on that idea and create something new and exciting - the origin of that idea lies within a human thought not an AI one

I simply asked for some examples of AI "enhancing creativity and forward thinking."

I'm not even sure we can agree on what those words mean when you won't even provide an example for me.

I think you're overlooking the obvious differences between this technology and old-fashioned plagiarism.

And I think you're missing the overwhelmingly negative consequences that simple "regulation" won't be able to deal with. To give one example that is different from U2Wanderer's, there is no way my college (or any other) can "regulate" itself out of the crisis in cheating (and therefore crisis in learning) caused by AI.

Anyway, I'm done with this discussion since it isn't even clear to me that you considered my points at all carefully or have any interest in actually persuading.

You apparently just want to tell me how stupid and short-sighted my position is.

Your words - not mine - nor AI's to that point

Yes we will never agree so we'll leave it there

And it is not up to me to provide examples - why should I? You can simply find your own

I am using plagiarism as an example of pre-AI exploitation but if you can't see that then...

And I am not missing the point - I have addressed those issues but it seems you have missed mine

I don't want to/have/need to to persuade you to do anything - you are free to do or act as you wish

No you're not stupid - but short-sighted? I guess we can agree on that point at least

    A personal put-down. Classy.

And I thought you might want to defend/explain your position with actual logic, facts, and examples since you were so quick to tell me that my position was wrong.
  4. At the end of the day, it really doesn’t matter how any of us feel about AI. It’s here, technology doesn’t go backwards. So you can use it to make the world and your life better, or you can use it to make shit worse. That’s the thing about artificial intelligence is that it was created by us so it’s a reflection of us, so everything bad about it, is everything bad about us. I make music, and last year there was a song that I desperately wanted a saxophone part on, but as a middle-aged man who doesn’t play saxophone and doesn’t know anyone that does I came up with a brilliant idea. I played a guitar line for four bars and then had an AI change the instrument from a guitar into a saxophone. Now there might be people that are at odds with this idea, but I wanted the song to sound the way it did in my head and I didn’t want to compromise. For me intention is everything, and when it comes to AI it’s about why you’re using the tool and what you’re hoping to get out of it, like anything else. As for use and creativity, people were upset when the synthesizer showed up, people were upset when computer effects showed up in movies.. but then it becomes the norm. So I don’t know what the world‘s gonna look like in a post AI generation, but if we’re good, it’ll be good

Not a personal put-down at all because I do think you're short-sighted when it comes to the benefits of AI

Why should I defend/explain my position any further?

I didn't say you were wrong - again, you're good a putting words in my mouth and you're deliberately trying to manufacture an argument that isn't there

Logic, facts and examples are plentiful - again, why do I need to point you in their direction?

You seem an (non-artificial) intelligent person so do some research - why should I have to direct you? That's just lazy journalism on your behalf

Anyhoo - you said we should stop this back and forth so lets do that as neither of us will move on this subject (though my main point is about its use in creativity and not AIs abuse of intellectual property as I've mentioned legal regulation many a time and it's getting a little tiresome now)

A fine example of its use in creativity

If I were to have an idea where I can imagine a female choir singing an intro to one of my songs then can I afford to assemble a female choir at a moment's notice?

Can I afford the logistics of getting them to a studio at a certain time?

    Can I afford a studio?

Can I afford to pay a producer, a mixer, a technician?

Of course not - but I want that effect for my song so I use AI to generate that for me

I am not releasing it for profit and if I can raise future funding playing it to people as a demo where from that I can actually afford all those things and employ a human choir then what is the problem?

In saying that, I can get a synthesiser to create a similar choral effect and nobody bats an eyelid - huh?

And if I did release a song just using AI for that effect (not a human one) then I would be willing to pay part of any sales or profits to an organisation supporting musicians - or the AI software I employ already caters for that within its payment scheme (i.e part of your subscription model goes to supporting musicians)

In the past, have synthesiser (again, only using them as a pre-AI example) players or keyboard players or effects software users previously done this? I think not

It's all about fair use and legal regulation

My bad, Acrobat and Tears of Things would definitely be in the "Political Section"
  9. In A Life and Cobl are too similar to be played back 2 back...
  10. Will blue dot fever affect this tour somewhat?

Only 2 songs from the new album? Nope.
