That statement only had any weight to it when they were performing most of their songs to a higher or similar standard to the album versions and brought an incredible energy to their shows. That’s not the case anymore.
I'm not so sure about SoE, but most of the songs from SoI were much better live than on the album. I'd say that about Joey Ramone, Iris, Raised by Wolves, Cedarwood Road. And I know some people prefer the album version, but I really do love acoustic EBW. That whole era was significantly improved by I+E Tour, especially considering the controversial rollout of the album.

IMO nobody cares about a new U2 album in general, fans want to hear rarities, general public hits. Maybe small amount of fans want a new music...
We had some updates ahead of the Zane Lowe interview. I don't expect a tour based on that information, and the crew are no longer on hold. The information shared with Zane Lowe seems to confirm that. I expect we'll get the same via Record Collector when it comes out later this week.

As for new album, count me in the small amount of people who want new music. I really enjoyed SOE, and NLOTH is one of my favourite projects they've done. And a high point of the Vegas shows for me was "Atomic City". Also based on the number of people commenting on our socials at U2Songs, my impression is a very large number of fans want new music.

That’s sort of my point that the new songs, which the SOI songs were at the time, are the only ones the band can really do justice anymore. Although for me I loved the album versions of SOI as well but they did them justice live. So for a new tour there needs to be plenty of new material to make it worthwhile to me. The only issue is if the new material isn’t that great like with SOE. But I’d rather listen to blackout live from E&I than streets from 2017 because even though streets is a better song the 2017 version doesn't do the song justice whereas blackout on E&I is as good as the song gets.

Same with NLOTH. The songs came to life live.

Thank you for the info, even though it's very very sad news I guess I might be in the minority that didn't have a fortune to see tours before IE and now it's probably just too late. They're not getting any younger, waiting another year or who knows how many is not going to help anything...
  6. Id love new music. It’s a shame that new songs seem to only stick around for 1 tour now. No SOI/SOE at the sphere? Shame.

We all know this band has completed recorded songs they could release if they wanted to. Give us songs of ascent while we wait for the rock record and tour. Songs like “soon” and “glorify” aren’t exactly touring songs… they’re album songs.
  7. I don't understand that it's hard for them to release a new single. I don't understand. It doesn't condition you to release a new album but at least you'll give something new to the fans, come on, I need to know what the new album is like.
  8. U2 will probably take much longer to release the album knowing that they work on the songs until the last minute (imagine now waiting for Larry? It gets worse) then, why don't they AT LEAST give us a new single? All happy

Count yourself lucky with what they've put out in recent years ,The Cure's last album was 2008 only took them 16 years to follow it up😱

Easy response from their management: U2 released a single last weekend....
  11. I've been keeping an eye out for Record Collector magazine in stores, but no sign as of yet.

I'm desperate to read Adam's comments on the future of U2, but I doubt he would make any special announcements in a random magazine.

I know I should brace myself for it being a paraphrase of what we have already heard via Zane Lowe, to prevent myself from being disappointed!

    It's out on the 31st.
