And above all, I HOPE it's that irrational guitars album that Bono mentioned in MOJO, otherwise Edge will become the most wasted guitarist in history. Yes, this is my limit.
With this 6 year gap between proper albums of new music the band have become 'U Who'.
Friends of mine who are casual fans think the band have split up or retired years ago.
All that momentum they had this time last year with the sphere gigs getting lots of good press , Atomic City being their most successful release in a decade etc you would have thought that they would be boyd by all that and would want to jump straight back in things and ride that wave.
But no .... not our band!!
They would rather spin hyperbolic nonsense about this so called 'loud & uncompromising' record that is basically ready to go .... featuring ( I am paraphrasing here - "some of the best stuff they had done for years , the edge loves his guitars again") when clearly there was zero existence of such a record - or someone close to them said 'those new songs are dogshit'.
They all need to shut their mouths and just 'quietly go about 'it' instead of 'grandstanding' about the existence of so called records like 'Songs of Ascent' and 'Songs of Rock N Roll'
MESSAGE TO THE BAND:
FFS get a proper Producer/s and a creative team behind you and get back in the studio, confiscate Edge's Casio Keyboard and do what you do best.
Stop being worried about the reception of new material or trying to write 'pop' songs / music to try and score a number one single. Just make music for yourselves or if your too proud to consider that and I suggest that you are , then do it for 'us' ur long suffering fans!!
:END
Edit: The post is meant to be 'tongue n cheek' and not a serious decree to the band lol
Maybe the delay is still due to Larry's healing. Or, could be a disagreement on the direction of the music. About a year ago, one of them (I think Bono) said that a new album was tied into Larry's healing. Maybe that's still front and center? Who knows. Maybe they had an unreasonable guitar album and decided to dream it all up again, pun intended LOL
Even though they have been working on stuff since the end of EI that seems to be on the backburrner now.
Larry's health is the #1 priority obviously but it seems like some dissatisfaction with what had been done since late 2018. Fans just have to be patient for new material. They will deliver.
I wonder if the last few years in the studio the band reached the same point they were at during the conclusion of the Chris Thomas sessions?
It’s 7 years since the last release of new material.
As a lifelong fan I can truly say the only song I highly rate to have longevity out of both Innocence & Experience is ‘The Little Things’
If it goes another full calendar year with no new material then they’ll have no market except us did hards to aim at, so may as well turn their energy into stuff like the Sphere show on a touring basis.
I’ve so much doubt our Lawrence will EVER be fit enough to do a full tour approx 3 shows a week for several hours. Just my spin on things though.
