1. slight deviation but all this made me wonder about all the shows/tour legs in the history of the band that were cancelled/changed for one reason or another

from memory U2wanderer once said here that prior to the delay of SOE, they were planning on doing the E+I tour in 2017 and then doing the Australasian tour in 2018 sometime to promote both records.

heard it claimed somewhere they were also planning a 2006 US stadium tour and they were gonna have a rotating AB/Zooropa/Pop encore (thus why Discotheque and The First Time got played on the 2nd US/CA leg and why Mofo was rehearsed in Atlanta).
  2. so it seems tibetan concert was instead of 2nd philly show
  3. We've got note on a lot of the cancellations over the years up at https://u2songs.com/shows - click on the tour, and we've tried to note any cancelled dates in the write ups for each leg, or in the case of a bigger shift, in the write up for the tour itself.

I believe the 2006 rumours were just wishful thinking by fans when news of a Honolulu date started to be rumoured. Don't believe the band really had any plans at that time to do stadiums at that time. They had already done two legs in North America indoors, and every indication was they were ready to be off the road.

The 2017 IE tour was loaded into TM's computers. At least one date leaked, October 20, 2017 for Columbus Ohio (arena). When they were removing those dates from their system, one was made public instead of being deleted. There were a number of other shows planned as well. The album was delayed from October 31, 2016, for over a year, and those 2017 dates were replaced with the Joshua Tree shows, originally planned for a small handful of stadium shows, that grew into something much bigger.

The Australia / Asian tour was planned for the end of 2018. They had plans to wrap up the EI tour in Europe, and then go and do stadiums in the Southern Hemisphere using the Joshua Tree stage. Those plans were cancelled in June 2018, while the band were playing in Boston. They chose to postpone it a year at that point.

  4. U2 cancels Sat. night concert due to conflict

The Grammy award-winning rock band U2 will perform on the University's Franklin Field Sunday as part of their "Pop Mart" tour. But the band's second show -- planned for Saturday, June 7 -- was canceled due to scheduling conflicts. According to a New Park Entertainment official, U2 will make a surprise appearance at a Tibetan benefit on that day. Saturday ticket-holders can receive a full refund for the $52.50 they previously paid or exchange their tickets for those for the Sunday concert. Extra seats are available because -- as is the case with any production as large as the U2 concert -- the entertainment company holds a certain amount of tickets in order to decrease disappointment in the event of an emergency. The band's tour kicked off April 25 in Las Vegas, Nevada before heading to Washington, D.C.'s RFK Stadium on May 26 and then the Meadowlands, New Jersey's Giants Stadium on May 31. U2's concert features "the world's largest television," 1,000 lighting fixtures, "six lighting machines," 20 Xenon searchlights and 100 strobe lights, according to the band's press release. Coordinating efforts have been made between Philadelphia police and fire marshals and University security to provide fans with a safe concert. But the New Park Entertainment official said he did not expect many more people than would attend the Penn relays or a football game. He added that parking should be more convenient because the concert is scheduled for Sunday, when the University is at a lower capacity than during the week. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority will also add more trains and buses to its regularly scheduled one to help the transportation increase that will occur. The concert is the first one held at Franklin Field since the 70s, but many hope such events will become a trend for the stadium. "Five football games and the Penn Relays are not utilizing all of Franklin Field's opportunities," University spokesperson Ken Wildes explained. "We need to find out how to use the stadium in a better way." The Athletic Department sold advance tickets for the U2 concert to University students, faculty and staff before Ticketmaster took over the sales. Athletic Director Steve Bilsky said he anticipates that the department will receive revenues of between $100,000 and $200,000 from the concert. New Park officials said there will be no rain date for the concert, since U2's 52-truck entourage cannot be easily rerouted.

I personally think that they actually were planning on doing a 2006 Summer US stadium tour. HTDAAB was an America album so I would not be surprised.
  6. They had done 6 arena shows in Chicago between the two US legs. I can’t imagine they thought they’d come back and do stadiums in a subsequent leg.

I wouldn't say it's underrated,I actually think its way overrated on this site, there's some good songs on it but it's only hardcore U2 fans that have any kind of love for it let's be honest.

Yeah. The third leg in arenas while popular, didn't sell super fast. It was pretty easy to get tickets in most markets right up close to the shows. Those four Toronto shows were the easiest time I've every had getting tickets to multiple shows. And my Ottawa ticket was bought the day of the show.

The original plan had been US 3rd leg, then right to Australia for late 2005, and then wrapping up in South America in early 2006. They ended up delaying Australia to fit in more US arena dates at the end of the year (2005), so they must have felt there was some demand there. And those Australia shows eventually had to be rescheduled again due to illness. At the time no one was even sure they'd get rescheduled.

If they were looking at a US Stadium leg, it likely died around the time they decided to add to the third leg shows in arenas...

Nah, plenty of non-hardcore U2 fans love this album.
