  3. It's just lazy in my opinion and something they would never have dreamed of doing over the 20 or so years before. It also summed up and confirmed just how hard they were chasing commercial success at that time which is something they've never really given up on since sadly....

    Did it ever really replace anything? I always saw them doing it a second time as an added bonus at the end of a great show, not a replacement. It wasn't even on the set list on a number of those occasions. Although it did get more formally added later in life. I enjoyed it at the shows I saw, was a bit of a waste to have a number with big screen visuals, when the sun still hadn't fully set. Was nice to see them the second time around.

  7. So as I'm gearing up for the new album I've been coming back to the band and just deep diving the catalog. Anyway, was Crumbs from your table always this good!? I love the soft spoken chorus and edges guitar tone is fire. Was always a song I brushed off but now I love it haha

    It's probably one of my top five favorites.. musically and lyrically, I still love it. I wish they had done it live more often
  9. I`m giving this album a shot as I type this. After all these years my ears still think something is missing on this. It`s like every time I want to put this record on I want to hear something that isn`t there.

    I feel like there`s about three pieces of real music in this: Vertigo, City and Original. The rest of the songs are unfinished, or the lyrics are just awful, like in Miracle Drug. U2 luckily made it because of Vertigo and their peak performance in their middle 40s.

    Sometimes you can’t make it on your own is a great track, I’d place that higher than original of the species. I think that city of blinding lights, vertigo and sometimes you can’t make it on your own are the only essential u2 songs on the album but there’s a few others that are fine.
  12. I'm surprised that people have doubts about this album, it was the record I lived through most intensely as a U2 fan (I discovered the band in 2002). For me it's easily the band's best of the 21st century. Even its weakest song 'One Step Closer' is very good.
