1. It appears that the arrival of V-U2 has been a big boost for the Sphere. In large part because it has taken showtimes away from Postcard From Earth, and some of the remaining Postcard showtimes have been selling like hotcakes due to people having fewer times to choose from for that movie.

I'm only half kidding. There's actually a UFC fight this weekend which is taking over the Sphere for a few days, stopping both movies from playing. A few specific showings of Postcards do seem to be benefitting massively though. (I think they cancelled a few showings to make room for UFC, and I wonder if folks who bought tickets were offered upgrade/discount tickets to these other shows instead. That could explain it.)
  2. Won't this be a constant thing? I doubt they would put this much effort into something to only have it showing for 90 days etc. It's not like they're overwhelmed with attractions.

Yes it should be ongoing. Sphere put the money into developing it and it gives them a little more variety on what they offer outside of concerts and "Postcards from Earth". I expect it to remain until they replace it with other things. Postcards has been showing for a year now.
  4. My guess is that any of the films, Postcards, V-U2 film, the rumored Wizard of OZ film, and any other films will just stay in rotation for years to come. Of course a variety of more films and/or live residencies will lower the showing frequency of each recorded film. When they do have more variety and less showings of each, this should help attendance as right now there is simply an over-supply of showings with only 2 films in rotation. These films do cost a lot to make, however once made, cost relatively very little to simply re-run. Remember, the Sphere is only a little over a year old as far inside shows, as they are playing the long game, and they will slowly build up the viewing options.
  5. I just noticed, they also added a bunch of Postcards showings during the F1 weekend. That's a big change. I have a feeling those shows will do really well, with the Sphere being so visible right on the track.
  6. It took me a couple of days to read every post in this thread before typing this up. There have been many comments about people not likely to fly in just to watch this show, and others have asked attendees if the show was their primary purpose for going to Vegas. I can't speak for others but I can share my plans.

First, I allowed my U2com subscription to lapse after being a member for a full year and not receiving the promised membership gift (it did eventually come). I was fortunate enough to see the live show a couple of times and it was more amazing than I expected or hoped for. I feel like the filmed versions is quite expensive for a concert movie, but decided to splurge a little for my birthday when I realized I could use airline miles to fly in and out same-day and thus save $$ on hotels and such. I found a decent ticket for one of the shows in October (coming up), and bought my flights. I am flying in, going to the sphere to see the show, then flying back home. It feels a bit irresponsible from an environmental perspective, and it admittedly is. I don't have an excuse that can justify it in any way other than this is my way of treating myself. I can think of a million worse ways to spend a Saturday...
