Because Bono hates mercy for whatever reason.
He wants us to believe Mercy came before luckiest man. But that logic doesn’t make sense because they were still tinkering with Mercy in 2010. So is it mercy, then luckiest man, then mercy again? I don’t think so.

I think it would have been mercy first. I’ve never heard of the luckiest man title until now so it’s always been mercy I think which was first leaked in 2004 and only changed now when they went into the studio to do the changes to the song including the new lyrics in places.

So there is a song with two different titles. The Demo 2004 first luckist man, then mercy 2010 Wide awake europe and now 2024 luckist man.

I don’t think that’s right. There was never a luckiest man in the world demo. There was a demo which was essentially mercy because the luckiest man in the world never existed as a title or lyric in the song in 2004. So it was mercy (leaked demo 2004), mercy live in 2010 and now luckiest man in the world. Put simply its always been mercy until now where they’ve for the first time had the lyric ‘luckiest man in the world’ and in using that lyric have changed the title.

The text are different. So in a period of 6 years, from 2004 to 2010, the text was changed again.
