1. So the poor selling concerts of the Popmart tour have been well documented and discussed, and remains a fascinating topic. Outside of that tour, they really haven’t had too many shows that sold poorly. Anybody know of some examples?

One example that comes to mind is Australia 2010. Brisbane night 2 had the upper levels curtained off. If you look at the Billboard Boxscore numbers for Sydney and Melbourne, they played to much fewer people in those cities 360 compared to Vertigo, despite being in the same stadiums.

Also the Pittsburgh show in 2017 had sections in the upper levels curtained off.
  2. Wasn't the JT2017 a little slow out the blocks in some N American cities when they went on sale? Seem to recall Houston being one.
  3. Houston NRG Stadium
    U2 2017- 47,669
    Guns n Roses 2016- 49,778
    Rolling Stones 2019- 45,958
    Coldplay 2022- 46,959

So as you can see, U2’s Houston 2017 attendance is comparable to other similar bands. It may have been a slow seller but eventually it got there. But there may have been a few others on that tour that didn’t sell well. Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Kansas City? Then they had problems in Australia/NZ on the 2019 tour as well.
  4. Yeah think it was because U2 normally sells out immediately when going on sale but for the 1st time in decades they didn't at a few early shows, guess they raised the bar themselves though.
  5. Outside of the PopMart shows, Christchurch 1993, Norman 2009, and Istanbul 2010. The latter two still sold a lot of tickets, though.
  6. Istanbul 2010, someone offered me a half a pack of cigarettes for my extra ticket the day of the show. Best offer I got. Ended up giving it to some kid for free instead...lots of tickets to be had that day...but sold out as far as official records go...
  7. i+e Denver was a late addition to the tour in 2015 and had large sections of the upper seating curtained off on the second night.

Haha that’s a funny story!! If you watch the Stingray Guitar video of Istanbul, you can really see how empty the stadium was! Norman and Istanbul both had over 50,000 people so it’s hard to call them failures, but they were in stadiums that could’ve held like 80,000 in a 360 configuration.

Forgot about Denver 2015, which is surprising. Then I remembered I went to Chicago Night 2 in 2018, and the upper level behind the stage was curtained off. The fact that U2 couldn’t fill the United center in Chicago shocked the hell out of me!
  9. Chorzow 2009, for a long time Snow Patrol had 2 dates mentioned on their webpage 6th and 7th of August...
as the prices were kind of steep as for 2009 (far grandstands for 100€+) it sold very very slowly, eventually it was probably almost sold out but the 2nd show never happened
  10. Auckland 2 2019
  11. Manchester 2018, GA was very empty

I forgot about those Denver shows. It's odd how they went from selling nearly
80 000 tickets at the stadium show there in 2011 to not being able to sell out arenas there in 2015. I guess that's why they skipped Denver in 2017 and 2018....
