1. If you replace "Love and Peace" for "Original of the Species" in Side A of How To Dismantle, those first 5 songs are better than all songs on Days of Ash except for "Tears of Things".

"Song of the Future" comes close second, but I'll take Vertigo, Sometimes, Miracle Drug and City of Blinding Lights before "Song of the Future". Although, Song of the Future is very different in tone and mood to all those songs and it's very good on its own!
  2. Hot Take: Tears of Things destroys Side A of No Line, except for Moment of Surrender and Magnificent
  3. Sorry for the spam, but I'll definitely put Tears of Things at the same level as MOS, Every Breaking Wave, and The Little Things That Give You Away

    Totally agree

Tears is considerably better for me. EBW and MOS go absolutely nowhere musically. Total non events for me despite both having great melodies and lyrics. Tears has the lyric and the slow build up and actually reaches the crescendo the others are crying out for.
  6. I think the only possible negative, and I hope it doesn’t turn out to be a negative after all, is Bono saying these songs are different to what’s on the album. It seems like these type of songs are what a lot of fans want to hear. I guess there’s a slight worry they go overly upbeat and joyful on the album. I hope they can get the balance right because at least the EP has shown there’s still quality work left in the band, something I was starting to doubt a little. Without comparing individual songs I’d say the quality of the EP for the most part is at the standard of where they were at 20-25 years ago.
  7. There is always the very real possibility that they released this EP to gauge the reaction prior to the album. There would appear to be a few months at least before the band signed off on the new record. Plenty of time to chop and change.

That could be a wise move if they are indeed working with about 25 songs to pick from. They’ve got a very solid foundation with Days of Ash to really build on. If the album gets a similar reception they’ll have built some real excitement leading into a tour which people will already be excited about because it’s been so long.

Tears & Little Things both reach the crescendo.
  10. It does. But it’s also full of dull electric drums and managed to feel like a 7 minute song despite not even reaching 5. There’s a much better song in Little Things than what it actually turned out to be. Slightly better live too as that somewhat alleviates my drum complaint.

I think what they meant is they got the political stuff out of the way. I just hope the album isnt loaded with songs like Yours eternally.

Would be interesting to hear upbeat and jofful with Eno. (and Jacknife) No word on Daneil Lanois joining the fun ?
  12. A positive music can be celebrating of beauty of nature, for example. That would sound as an Irish sci-fi folk😅
