1. Let’s hope not lol

I am genuinely concerned for my ability to hear great music as everyone seems to love this new stuff while i have tried and tried ( repeated listens ) to like it but I just don’t.

Nothing wants me to go back and listen to it again.

I have a mate ( not on forums ) who like me has been a fan since ‘under a blood red sky’ who also thinks the new stuff is average at best.

I just can’t put my finger on it!

What am I missing! Enlighten me lol

Yours Eternally and American Obituary are disposable, you don't miss much with those

One Life I think the highlight is Larry (if it wasn't for him the song would be disposable I think)

Song of the Future has a groove and joy U2 has not had in a long time, which is why I think people are liking it so much

Tears of Things is a lyrical masterpiece, very deep and humane message, and very different from what they have done before. So, I think that's why people like it (Musically it's not reinventing the wheel, but the solo and drumming are great)

    Don't know if that helps?

What are your top 5-10 songs since the release of ATYCLB? Might just be a style thing that isn’t gelling with you.

  4. for me this song is the least favorite of the EP precisely because it's the most U2ish song, same vibe as TLTTGYA which isn't my favorite either

Agree with this take on the songs, apart from actually liking Yours Eternally and American Obituary a bit more. One Life at a Time is average despite Larry's fantastic drumming. The standouts to me are definitely Tears and then Song of the Future.

Hot take, but I like Days of Ash more than SOI and SOE.
  6. I’ll stick up for one life at a time and say I think there’s plenty to that song in addition to Larry’s drumming. Edges little mini solo’s as fills and the acoustic guitar standing out just the right amount are great to hear. I like the lyrics and Bono’s vocal delivery too. Can’t leave out Adam although I think rather than shine on it he compliments everything well. The mood and vibe from the song in general I’m fully on board with.
  7. There is also the matter of how they go together. Days of Ash from start to finish has an integrity (not in a moral sense--though that too--but in the sense of wholeness) and focus of both sounds and themes. Even the poem fits with this.

Again, I think that it's been since side 1 of ATYCLB that there was this kind of focused wholeness to a release.

As much as their album titles tried to convey a thematic focus, what on earth did, for instance, "You're the Best Thing About Me" have to do with "American Soul?" Or, to give another example, two almost-great songs from SOI (EBW and Iris) sort of fall down for me because they don't have anything to do with each other either sonically or thematically (and because I think both of them lack artistic precision/clarity, i.e. they are not fully realized as fully distinct artistic creations as opposed to songs like Bad or WOWY or Acrobat or...)..

That could be a wise move if they are indeed working with about 25 songs to pick from. They’ve got a very solid foundation with Days of Ash to really build on. If the album gets a similar reception they’ll have built some real excitement leading into a tour which people will already be excited about because it’s been so long.

Is there a possibility U2's next album is actually a double album of 24-25 songs?
Or one actual album and another 12 B sides that get released?

Neither. It's been cut down to the usual album length. The other tracks will make an appearance elsewhere over the next couple of years. A lot of new music and new-to-us music coming over the next little bit.

Any plans for some nostalgia releases via unreleased live material?
