1. Although this is not confirmed, I have the feeling Tears of Things had to be a Song of Ascent!

    1. Bono has said "Songs of..." is no longer being done. He made several appearances during the promotion of "HTDAAB" where he claimed he's moving on from that idea. So even if that material comes out some day, it would likely be under a different title.

    2. A lot of people are hyping up a possible album in May. The album will be out this Fall. Likely in September. So even if they were to release something for the Ascension I doubt it would be a full length EP.

    3. There is some evidence that the songs once due for "Songs of Ascent" have been used on the current two EPs. "The Tears of Things" almost certainly did. And some of "Easter Lily" feels like it could come from there as well.

    4. As of Friday I was told there was no plans for another EP, that gears were shifting to get ready to launch the single next. Does that rule out a third EP? No, they went back and forth on when to do Easter Lily or if they would at all. But I am able to say, based on the conversations I have had, I don't believe right now they are planning a third EP. They have a lot to do before a single comes out. Artwork, remixes, a video featuring the band, promotional appearances some of which will be pre-taped, interviews with the press etc. They are working on finalizing elements of the record as well. There is a lot of work that went into "Days of Ash" and "Easter Lily", pulling off a third isn't impossible, but I believe that work will switch to the new single.

"Ascension" would be a great title for a 3 song EP something like that OR a Single release that includes the lead single for the new album and 1 Ascent song as B-Side.

I remember Bono said something like: (I know I shouldn't trust Bono) "We're shelving SOA, because we want people to hear enough about the songs first (and hear them) before releasing it" "We're putting out a Rock & Roll album first"
  3. Here's the quote: "The rocker, who played from the "The Bard's Las Breath" and "Smile," two of the songs from the album, on his phone, said that the band "felt that the material was so strong that it deserved time to make sure people heard about them as well as heard them."
  4. The latest EP also most certainly feels like Songs Of Ascent to me, although not the title or probably the intention. This has been some of their best work in years IMO.
  5. Why is it so hard for you to accept there will be no album called SOA? It doesn't mean those songs are/will be released with a different albumtitle

Those quotes from Bono about those songs are from October 2022. It's six years later.

He's since said at least three times that the "Songs Of" era is behind them now and they are moving on to other ideas. Doesn't mean the songs won't ever be heard. But as far as calling something SOA I do not think we will ever see that based on comments he made in 2024 and early 2025. One of those comments was in the U2 X-Radio interview he and Edge did with David Fricke in late 2024. The other was in Record Collector magazine around the same time I think, but I'll have to confirm.
  7. It seems that fans are getting hung up on titles. I like it better when the band just drops without fanfare.

thanks a lot for the clarification!!
  9. After the first listen I was dissapointed and didn't like the EP, but now after a few more listens I like it so much! It's a really good EP! But I still don't like Coexist.
  10. Fair point, agree these surprise releases have been a much better approach.
  11. I don't like this one so much. Almost just as dull as SOE. Not as surprised by the music as on Days of Ash. Really like that EP
