    I watched the Street of Dreams music video immediately afterwards. My biggest takeaway is that this doesn't feel like a U2 song. It doesn't feel like something they would put out, not that it's a bad thing. It doesn't feel like very U2 at all compared to their backlog. Seeing the guys in the video just didn't seem real.

    Interested to see how carnival this album actually is. Or whether this song will stick out like a sore thumb on it.


    Well said - the music video is okay-ish, but nothing more. Seems pretty much like a must to have for them, not a need to have. Business as usual
  4. At the moment ‘Disappointing..’ and ‘good moments but..’ have a combined 65% on a fans’ site. By all accounts that’s a terrible indictment of this song.

    I love what B-man has done for music but these lyrics are just terrible. Something I would expect from AI, not one of the best writers about standing with people who have suffered unimaginable suffering.

    They’re clunky, staid, and worst of all for U2 lyrics - boring.
  5. Wow. I'm not sure what everyone dislikes so intensely?

    I like it. It works as a catchy, summertime lead single. Joyful, upbeat. Great chorus and I especially love Edge singing the intro and outro. That element of turning an otherwise fairly standard song into a prayer of sorts is one of the things I love about U2. I'm even coming around to the very simple verses, too. The chanting back and forth between Bono and Edge leading up to each chorus has grown on me. So has the bridge and solo. I would take this over Boots, The Miracle, and Best Thing any day.

    Having said all of that, I very much prefer everything on Days of Ash and especially Easter Lily. Those songs have a classic U2 depth and resonance to them that SOD does not. But based on the reactions from others here, it seems that if I love the EPs that I'm supposed to hate SOD...and I guess I think it's possible to enjoy both for what they are.
  6. It’s the kind of song that feels like it belongs to the World Cup rather than the album. The instrumental is okay (except for Adam: 10/10). I hate the lyrics.


  7. Agree but they often release one of the worst songs on the album as a single so there is hope....Quite a letdown from Easter Lily though.

    Hey, Bono is urging us to 'be free' - so you can like the EP and SOD!

    I've had the chorus stuck in my head for months, and I love the warm sound of the guitar, but the verse grates on me a little bit.

    Even the call and response is ok, I suppose, if a little jarring - it's the weird effect or mixing (not sure?) on Edge's voice which is odd.

    It opens with those beautiful harmonies, builds into the chorus, has great momentum, and then just kind of grinds to a halt with the verse, which is a shame.

    The chorus sounds so 'together', for want of a better word, beautiful guitar, harmonies, sounds very luscious - and then the verses sound very 'bare' - not sure of the technical terms.

    (And then it switches from Edge doing the response to Bono, which is a bit random!)

    It should be fun live, but even then, it may be a little awkward, because although the words are basic, we'll probably forget which one is which, so it'll be Bono going, "Your life?" and we'll probably shout, "Gonna ride it!", or something.

  10. Honestly so grateful that I 'got' NLOTH when it came out, and unapologetically loved it. I don't think I was online much at the time, so when I eventually came back, and everybody hated the album, I was like... oh!
  11. Some comments seem to forget the band's past. Every album has a song considered bad by fans. This analysis doesn't make sense.`

    I never hated this song, always loved it.

    Actually, I don’t think it’s hated. Many just feel it’s out of place in the album.
