    Actually, I don’t think it’s hated. Many just feel it’s out of place in the album.
    I have always liked Get On Your Boots. Probably because it is one of the fastest songs, per BPM, in U2's catalogue. I also enjoy the Barber Shop Quartet sound. Its a real zany song! However, I do think it fits much better, with regard to album placemenr, in the Linear track list.

  6. Listened to Easter Lily on my walk to work. It is so much more superior to this. More thoughts still to form. Clearly SOD is a moment in time song with a story and a tournament (and a bank and David Beckham) all lined up to sell. I just don’t understand how this moment in time single song can be the lead single for a yet to be announced album. The timeline would be interesting to know.
  7. Yep. Listened to Lily and Ash after the release of SoD and left me puzzled they wanted to lead with SoD after the strong material on these two EPs. I don't feel the urge to relisten to SoD while I like to revisit the best parts of the EPs every week.

I think the answer to why they chose the song as the lead single is pretty simple - catchy chorus, overall commercially friendly vibe, hoping for more crossover appeal rather than appreciation by fans (I even recall Bono talking about the EPs being more “for the fans” with the album aimed wider at the general public).

    Granted. But surely SOD has been created very recently given the subject matter and tie ins with the football tournament? If so, it was still deemed good enough to be the lead single for the album that will have already been in the works for a few years prior.

    We can’t really tell how recently it was written, it’s not like there’s anything in the lyrics that specifically relates to football. Might as well have been the case of them identifying a song they’ve already been working on as having this tie-in potential (which I think is being a little exaggerated - it’s not like the song is being used as the official World Cup anthem, it’s just a few charity related/promotional tie-ins that worked out timing wise).
  12. Great footballer but definitely not an actor. I don’t think it’s a very good ad in general. What I will say about street of dreams I think the little riff is good for advert music.
