1. I'm not overly familiar with it but have been browsing it lately and have a question I hope you can answer. Why are all the files so huge? An average audio of a given show is like 1GB yet here its only 200. Working off a 60GB laptop i'm put off by these huge file sizes
  2. If you answer the question above have a pop at this one too. How the hell does it work?
  3. Because it's losless, losless files are just bigger because it's not compressed audio like MP3. MP3 is not allowed on u2torrents.

You can convert it relatively easy to MP3 after downloading though.

Hmmm. Never saw a audio torrent with a size of 1GB. I think it's a video you mean, otherwise I don't know, sorry

But I use it very often. First you should download a Torrent-program (like Utorrent, Azureus, BitLord, Emule, but you can also do this with LimeWire).
I'm using Utorrent. When you found a .torrent file on the web, you download it, just with your normal download program. This isn't the whole file.
To get the whole file, you open your Torrent-program. I recommend Utorrent but others are also good. At Utorrrent you click on the icon in the top left corner (add Torrent). Here you open the torrent file.

Now the program starts downloading, if there are enough peers (uploaders with parts of the file) or seeds (uploaders with the whole file).

If it's finished it's just like a normal downloaded file. It's a great way of sharing files.

    Hope this helps you
EDIT Of course there are audio torrents with a size of 1GB But I thought you meant just one show
  5. mp3's can be torrented but these are lossy files where the original file and therefore some of what was originally recorded has been lost . The files on u2torrents are all lossless and are therefore a true and accurate representation of what was recorded. They are squeezed slightly to make them slightly smaller so can be transferred quicker. Some recent recordings can be as large as 1gb .
Think of it this way an 80 min cd holds 700mb of data U2 shows are approx 2 hours therefore that should take up 1050mb of data. Mp3's are hugely compressed to 10% the size of a lossless track hence the shows here vary around the 100mb mark. For mp3 players and pc's and non top of the range hifi systems mp3 can sound fine and because so many people tend to be use to them they maybe dont realise the difference in the sound.
Try this as an example take any recent purchased CD rip it onto itunes or something similar then burn it from itunes onto a cdr , then play both tracks/cd's on the best hifi you have access to and listen to the difference between the 2 trry it with and without headphones you may well be surprised at the muddiness of the mp3 track.

Personally i prefer lossless files but am happy to use mp3 if that is all that is availabe, anything to get someting that i want/like/need.

Hope i havent gone on too much and you can understand what i am saying.

    Cheers
  6. Thanks for that wealth of information folks. I'll think i'll leave U2torrent for a select few videos that I want. Sounds way too complicated for not too much gain in quality. I'll stick to U2start. Thank you all again.

I like U2torrent. Currently I'm downloading the irving show, and PopMart Sao Paulo and ZooTV Washington are finished, with a tremendous qualtiy. I hope it works for you
  8. Is there any way to compress video files? mp3 makes torrent audio files smaller with minimal quality loss. Is there an equivalent for video?

Well, I think it's possible to download a file as a .zip or a .rar file. Then the file is smaller. But I'm not really good in this. I have a brother who knows how this works. I will ask it when he's around

  12. sorry double post.

The problem is that you have to unpack these files.. so they're bigger again. But the dowload is faster.
And the program mentioned before is another option, but I don't really know how that works.
