  6. I stumbled upon the recent Zane Lowe interview with Chris Martin, and was endeared by how likeable his personality came across.

    I loved Parachutes when it came out, and often forget that I saw Coldplay perform at Slane Castle back in 2001 when they supported U2.

    I've never really been into their music since, although songs like Clocks etc are undeniable classics, and, I really wanted to like Moon Music.

    The album graphics are beautiful, but the music sounded very 'samey' to me, and the lyrics were contrived in the sense that I could anticipate the next lyric/rhyme.

    I like the concept of We Pray, but it sounds like Unfaithful by Rihanna to me!

    I'm sincerely impressed by their commitment to sustainability and inclusivity; sign language interpreters and using solar power - they're definitely leading the way!
  7. I know Chris Martin loves U2,and has used their business model ie royalties etc for Coldplay.But having your bass player not play a gig in Australia is taking the fandom a wee bit too far me thinks. U2 lead,the rest are just playing catch up.
  8. Hadn’t been paying attention or realised that Coldplay were back in town but I have to give them credit. They are playing FOUR sold out shows at Accor Stadium (aka the Olympic Stadium) here in Sydney and that is exceptional. U2, Ed Sheeran and AC/DC have done 3 nights before but Taylor Swift was the first to play 4 nights earlier this year; so all kudos to Coldplay for attracting that many fans.

    interestingly, it's my understanding that Chris Martin basically admitted to the audience that a bass recording track would be played(with a stand-in playing some parts over top), rather than a stand-in bass player actually playing set. And no one seemed to care much.
  10. Is the new album any good? I picked up whatever that album was they released in 2021 and it was so bland I never made it all the way through, despite several attempts.

    I enjoyed most of their stuff up through A Head Full of Dreams but they peaked for me with Viva la Vida.

    Each to their own and all that but I personally find it mind boggling they can sell out like this. They had a decent first 2 albums imo but overall 'bland' doesn't come close to how boring they are😂

    You've actually reminded me of exactly what it was that put me off them!

    I remember watching a performance during which Chris Martin put his foot up to the camera, like Bono did during Elevation with his 'soul' shoe, but... there was nothing written on the sole of his shoe, so it was a bit pointless...

    Then, he started crawling around on the stage floor, which I've never seen anybody do besides Bono... (correct me if I'm wrong, I realise Bono has by his own admission borrowed stuff from everybody!)

    Then, the guitarist, who was wearing a hat, started stomping one foot on the floor like Edge - which, ok, Edge didn't invent, but I was like just like... what is this Poundland U2 tribute?

    Also, I swear Chris Martin used to repeatedly thank the audience for giving them a great life?! Which got old after 20 years of Bono saying it, as much as I love him!

    And I think he was doing all the prayer hands and stuff, very Bono-esque!

    Absolutely no shade to Coldplay, and they seem like nice lads, but it made me wince, because I didn't understand why this band who I initially thought were phenomenal with Parachutes and all the hits like Clocks etc afterwards, were copying U2 so precisely to the point where they looked like a tribute band!
