It's not beyond the bounds of possibilities that he may have had enough of the band and wants a new challenge, it would be completely understandable having been together over 40 years ,TBH doing an album with Alice cooper was a strange move why exactly did he need to do that was he getting bored with the band or did he not like the musical direction that they were going in and wanted to work with other Artists that were doing music he could relate to and found exciting.
