1. So good. I could swear there's another melody in that part but I haven't pinpointed it yet.

Now go and listen to Tryin To Throw Your Arms Around The World from ZooTV Dublin EP for example.. I personally never knew that was a snippet! (Joan Armatrading "Love and Affection", whose Ashcroft is a big fan of).

Can you identify the song and snippet?
  3. Yes, the snippet is in TTTYAATW (some live performances, like the Dublin one for example) and the song is Joan Armatrading "Love and Affection".

That is the definitive version of that song for ME. And I say that before the 2024 re-release.
  5. 100% agree. It's perfection for me as well. And I'm really grateful it's in Dolby Atmos on Apple Music, sounds heavenly.

  6. Maybe that part is sampled from somewhere else, or it's an original, but I hear Filter "Take a Picture" there.

I think they made a deal after U2 sampeled their song for LOH that they can also sample a U2 song. I'm sure @u2wanderer1 knows more about this.
  9. The outro to that Haim song is very good (very good indeed) but the rest is just singing over the Numb riff, which to me, doesn't really work

U2 reached out to Haim about using the "Lights of Home" sample and that eventually ended with the girls and their producer joining U2 in studio, where they recorded backing vocals for the song as well. Haim has reached out a couple of times since, once to ask if Bono would contribute vocals to a song, but he could not. So they've kept in touch.

I'm not fully convinced it's a sample. Like "Lights of Home" where Adam is playing the borrowed riffs, I think in this case Haim has redone at least some of the sounds of "Numb." The drums are definitely different. They do have samples on the Haim album, and they are credited as such. The liner notes read: '"Gone" contains a sample from "Freedom! '90" as performed by George Michael.'

But in the case of the U2 song they read: '"Now It's Time" contains a portion of the composition "Numb." Written by Adam Clayton, Dave Evans, Paul D. Hewson, and Larry Mullen.' It's an odd way to credit a sample. Writing credits for the track read '"Now It's Time," written with Cass McCombs, Paul Hewson, David Howell Evans, Adam Clayton, and Larry Mullen Jr.' Maybe because it's a mix of newly created sounds and some sampling, it's credited differently?

They followed Numb's arrangement on the drums, but it seems to be played again, so that can be some credit for Larry... or U2?
