  1. What is it about this album that is so amazing? Perhaps it is the fact that it brings out the strong Irish(-American) pride in me. Regardless, it is currently tied with Achtung for the honor of 'best U2 album' in my book. Hell, I even like Indian Summer Sky and EPAA. It might not be the strongest song-for-song, but, like Joshua Tree or Pop, its real strength comes from what it is as a whole.
  2. This album and this period of U2 is very mystical. I think it's in consequence of starting colaboration with Brian and Danny. They brought to U2's music some kind of freshness and new components.
    There's a lot of very interesting songs on the whole album, but I think some B-sides
    ( especially the instrumentals like Bass Trap ) had to be on the album rather than songs like Indian Summer Sky or Promenade...
    Unforgettable Fire is still my favourite U2 album.
  3. Indian Summer Sky, Promenade and The Unforgettable Fire are the only 3 songs on that album I care for. But as an album it's definitely strong. Beat by Achtung, Josh, Zooropa, Pop and Boy though

  5. The Unforgettable Fire was the first U2 album I bought and it is still my favorite. Everything about it - the songs, the artsy/mystical vibe, the cover art - work for me. It's definitely an overlooked album given that their follow-up album (JT) was such a worldwide smash.

    Also, the B-sides are great as someone mentioned - Three Sunrises, Loves Comes Tumbling, Bass Trap, 60 Seconds in Kingdom Come. Great stuff. Also, the live versions of some of these songs are really interesting and different from the album. Check out the live versions of A Sort of Homecoming and Indian Summer Sky...and Bad (of course).

    this album has some "mystique"!!! it's a beautiful album, I love most of the songs and it's between my "Best U2 album" also!!
  7. 4th best album for me after JT/AB and ATYCLB. Great record, great songs with TUF as a stand-out.

    I've a special place inmy heart for this album. The sound and atmosphere of it are always a comfort.

    This album is also proof of what many of us here already know... the albums are sketches and the songs really come alive at the shows.

    While all the album version on The Unforgettable Fire are great, live... The Unforgettable Fire, Wire, A Sort of Homecoming, Bad... that is when they really take off and soar.

    I love that album as well. As a whole it's just great and a rather unusual listen compared to the first three albums, you know. I think with that album they def showed that they are a band that actually can/wants to develop, unlike other bands... and I especially kinda love "Elvis Presley And America" for some reason. The only song I usually skip is "4th of July". Heck the whole era is great!

    Spot on...This is the kinda album that once fans get interested in U2 this will get them hooked. I wouldn't pitch it to a non-fan cold. I'd get them listening to the bigger albums and then slip this one in to seal the deal. Some truly beautiful tracks on here. ASOH is a hidden classic! It still amazes me that an emerging Irish band would record a song about an assassinated black Amercian civil rights leader in the mid 80's.
