Well, I have never listened to any of these songs before. Not even Mercy (leaked 2004 version. I think I've heard it a few times on Bootlegs but don't remember anything about it). I've also purposely stayed away from listening to the singles of this album, so the first time I listen to this album in full would be the first time I experience these songs. So for me, it's a brand new album of 10 songs I've not heard before.

I've now listened to the album in full around 4 or 5 times. Luckiest Man in the World and Treason are great. If these songs were on a new U2 album I would be delighted. Picture of You, Evidence of life and Happiness are OK. Smile and Country Mile are listenable. The rest is forgettable.

So far my ranking would be a 6/10.
I had listened to the singles previously but agree with your assessment of the songs and overall album ranking. It's a fun treat to listen to as someone who became a fan back in 2004 with Bomb. Nothing more, nothing less. I do appreciate that the band (mainly Edge, it sounds like) took the time to release some of this unheard stuff rather than only sticking to previous B-sides.

  2. Hilarious but true. X+W 2024 is the worst of them.
  3. Some new tat in the merch store.
  4. Which the stupid u2 store is not working properly for the HTDAAB merch. I tried to purchase and I get it doesn't ship to your state [US store]..another person met the $100 purchase level where you are supposed to get a free set of guitar picks..and the system was trying to charge $30. Others have reported not being able to purchase as well. Maybe it wasn't supposedly to be "live" until Black Friday.
  5. looks like the white tshirt isn't avail in US store
  6. Not true. Fast cars is less better than picture of you and X + W. Is all about the tempo, guitars, vibe etc. Fast card is nice but Picture of you is just the one to listen to (for me)
  7. Two different songs with different vibes. Still prefer Xanax and Wine over Picture of You though.. just flows better IMHO. The cut and paste job in Picture of You is still jarring to my ears. But I am happy that these older songs are getting some attention
  8. Three versions of Fast Cars!
  9. Crazy, and two on the same album. I still prefer medium, rare e remastered Alprazolam and alcohol.

There was a good album to be had. We got something below average instead. Without Vertigo, the Bomb never would have detonated.

Mercy, Treason, happiness, Xanax, Wait Forever, Smile.

They really dismantled an atomic bomb. Those songs were too much Megatons for the World to take.

I will still wait for Mercy.

Edit: I'm happy to be here with you all again after all these years craving for decent U2 material.

You starve your fans of new material for long enough and they will greet a bunch of cast-off b-sides and half ideas as long lost masterpieces.

It’s an interesting to hear these outtakes, but this shadow album will be forgotten almost as quickly as SOS.

And even the 2004 version of Mercy ain’t that great, let’s be honest.
