1. U2, Nogent sur Marne Pavillon Baltard, 1980 december 4th, UNCIRCULATED from the SM aud MASTER

An early U2 recorded back in 1980 when they opened for Talking Heads in Nogent near Paris.

Made from the floor using a Sony TCD5 M and a couple of Phonia powered mics.

The tape is uploaded as it is, with fades in on 01 and 07; SQ is near EX (sample).

Cassette played on a Marantz SD 4051 deck (pitch adjusted), to Zoom H4, SD card to PC, Audacity editions, FLAC (TLH).

I'm not familiar with the songs.

    01. Fade in > An Cat Dubh/Into The Heart
    02. Another Time, Another Place
    03. The Cry/The Electric Co.
    04. Things To Make And Do
    05. Twilight

  2. I'll never stop freaking out when 20 or 30 years old uncirculated sources pop out. It just amazes me. THANK YOU.
  3. if you want such recordings to get out then ... search for them instead of waiting for them to come out by their own.
  4. Yeah because bootlegs are our life and we wont sleep until we find a rare unreleased one locked in a vault somewhere.

Cant we just say thank you before being criticised?
  5. Date is different, u2gigs has no record of a gig at the 4th.
  6. Does mean that its rare and u2gigs didnt it know it existed either, or some typo in the info ?
  7. I'm not able to find any Talking Heads information from 1980, anyone?
  8. The 2 versions are from the same show. That's for sure. This version has a much better sound quality. Gonna check pimm jal del la para's book for the date infos when i'm back home tonight.

They supported and/or lined up with the Talking Heads at several 79-81 shows and festivals. I now have doubts about the date of this concert, and as Spiral says, the two versions are from the same show. I'm going to check De La Parra's book right now.
  10. De La Parra dates this show as December 3rd, and there weren't two nights (next show took place in New York's The Ritz)... I think this bootleg is mislabelled, but it's a significant update from the previous version.
  11. this isn't mislabeled
    - the taper only attended one show of the talking heads that year there
    - the taper has his ticket for the show dated december 4th ( http://bit.ly/uLbpPT )
    - he specifically wrote december 4th on the tape
    - there were several dates (two actually) at the Pavillon Baltard that year ( http://amzn.to/tw13NR )

it's not because something is written on a book that it is automatically true.
that show IS from december 4th, there's no doubt about it.
