1. "The 2014 Winter Olympics, officially the XXII Olympic Winter Games, or the 22nd Winter Olympics, are scheduled to take place from 6 to 23 February 2014, in Sochi, Russia, with some events held in the resort town of Krasnaya Polyana. Ninety-eight events in fifteen winter sports will be held. Both the Olympics and 2014 Winter Paralympics are being organized by the Sochi Organizing Committee (SOC)."

As with every major event, there's always a talk about it, but this one seems to be a bit different with all the things that have happened and are happening in Russia. What do we think about it?

And, to talk about the event itself, any specific sports or sporters you look forward to performing? Olympic chat was very popular last Summer Olympics so let's see what this one will do It's almost time!

  2. I always watch some of Winter Olympics' sports, specially ski jumping and ice hockey (my dad played some time ago).

Not glad they're happening in Russia, though, as I wasn't happy for the Chinese 2008 Olympics. Olympism implies things as respect for the whole human race and human values and rights, that this countries despise.
  3. I'm not happy it is in Russia (and we, Czech, REALLY know what we are talkin about), but I love winter olypmpics. So guns down, it's about the sport, not the politics. I just hope all will be okay and only sadness will be just because of sports fail, no other...
  4. Well its all about the money. Qatar WC is even worse. Anyway I am sure it will be an impressive event in Sochi!
  5. I'm curious for the sports where we have chance to make medal (of course)... So it is speed skating, ice hockey, biathlon, nordic skiing (maybe), snowboarding... and besides that I'll watch ski jumping and alpine skiing...
  6. I'll watch as much as I can. I love the Olympics. Don't like the way Russia is run though. There are both negative and positive sides to countries like that getting events like these.
  7. The baddest part of the event is that billions go to the construction of arenas, olympic villages etc. while there are still many very poor regions in Russia...
It could be used in a much better way.
Same thing with the WC (and next olympics) in Brasil...
  8. Our first medal A silver in Women's Skiathlon taken by Charlotte Kalla.

Also... Bloody Norway already ruining things... put Sven Thorgren down to fourth place at the end of the slopestyle competition... and took the gold medal away from Kalla. Norway is Swedish anyway, I'm denying that we ever gave them independence.
  9. I better stay away from this thread.
