1. I know that there are a lot of ppl who dislike POP; on the other hand, there are new U2 fans becos they love POP.

For those who like POP, how do u appreciate the album?
In what sense and aspect do you define that it is an excellent album?
And for songs, live performance, singles, do you really like them?

Does Pop successfully bend in to the club music? Or only for the first 3 tracks?

    Let discuss Pop lovers!
  2. it's one of their albums that's best to listen to all the way through to get the feel for it.

I also like it coz it's one of their least talked about albums in many ways, and therefore all the poser "I love Vertigo" fans don't have their dirty mitts all over it.

If God Will Send His Angels and The Playboy Mansion are two of my favourite songs ever, and I'm even beginning to like Miami.

the way it blends dance with rock is extremely effective, to me. the dance influence adds to the songs and gives them great beats and basslines, but doesn't get in the way 95% of the time.

I'd love to see what it would soundlike if it'd have been "finished", but then again, the unifinishedness (if that's even a word) only adds to the effect, in my opinion.

I'm proud to be a big Pop fanboy
  3. Love this album!! It took my about 10 years to fully appreciate it. I think its their most complete album. It paints a great picture and really is very cohesive. I believe Bono said "It starts at a party and ends at a funeral". I think it s the closest thing to a concept album they ever made. Some of their most underated songs are on ths album: Gone, LNOE, DYFL, WUDM..to name a few. Its also a very dark album despite the colorful cd art. I could really go on for days about this album but I believe its a great addition to the catalogue and the songs really came to life as the tour went on. Hope they bring some but for 360!!
  4. Like it a lot, especially songs as Do You Feel Loved (which they never got right live). The albums isn't a real masterpiece, but the tour was. Almost every song was live top notch, especially Gone, Discotheque, Mofo, Please, Last Night On Earth....
  5. It's the one and only time U2 were actually cool. Although the stage outfits make them look a right set of cocks.
  6. The songs sound more honest, raw and full of emotion. When I listen to JT or AB (both great) I cant surpress the feeling that a lot of it is faked and over the top.
  7. Easy:
    Discotheque
    Do You Feel Loved?
    Mofo
If God Will Send His Angels
    Staring At The Sun
    Last Night On Earth
    Gone
    Miami
    The Playboy Mansion
If You Wear That Velvet Dress
    Please
    Wake Up Dead Man
Do I need to say more?
  8. Pop was raw emotion. A brilliant set of songs. Though it could have been better if they gave it more time....but the tour made it to me.

I also paid a lot more attention to Velvet dress because of your comments in another thread and fell in love with it! I used to dislike it now I finally get it...it was like a new song for me!
  10. Pop is the best description of the 90's anyone could ever deliver. The songs are perfect, the sequencing is perfect, the lyrics are brilliant. Insanity, desillusions, sex, religion, what else could you ask for ?

I like to think that great albums feel like journeys. In that case, it's more like one hell of a twisted trip, from the synthetic funky highs of Discothèque to the darkest lows of Wake Up Dead Man. Along with the raw, dry sound , Bono's scratchy voice, the weirdness of the experimentation and the overall logic to this chaos, you've got the recipe for the black diamond of U2's discography.

In other words : I fucking love it.

Glad my comments could help you liking it
I used to think it sucked too...but not anymore
  12. I don't care why any of us like it, but if you don't, you shall be smacked.

The lyrics are so deep and humorous, they can rip out your soul and either give it a kiss or kick it to the street. The music is gut busting. POP was truly meant for a stadium, not an album.

Btw, POP makes Achtung Baby sound/look like rubbish.
