  5. Add Glastonbury to it

U2 are to headline next year's Glastonbury Festival, making their first appearance at the Somerset event.

It will be a rare festival gig for the The Irish band, who will lead the line-up on Friday 26 June.

The stadium rock stars will break off from their North American tour to help Glastonbury celebrate its 40th anniversary.

Some 177,500 people will be at the event, but tickets sold out in 24 hours after going on sale last month.

Festival organiser Michael Eavis said: "I promised the the best possible line-up for the show next year and the confirmation that U2 will play their first ever Glastonbury - and their first major festival gig since the early 1980s - is fantastic news.

"We've been trying for years... And now we've finally made it happen. I'm sure they will pull out all the stops to make next year's Glastonbury the most memorable ever."

Promoter John Giddings said on Twitter: "It is true, U2 headline the Fri night @ Glastonbury. They fly back for the weekend in the middle of their US tour."

What the hell? This throws down all our "U2 doesn't play festivals anymore" theories

U2 will headline the Friday night of 2010's Glastonbury Festival. It is the first time U2 have made an appearance at a non-charity festival since 1985.

U2gigs twitter: # Despite my skepticism, it's true - U2 to play Glastonbury Festival, headlining Friday 25 June 2010. 5 minutes ago

  8. By the way, U2.com says that Glastonbury will officially be the only UK and Eire date on next year... Fuck

U2 will play Glastonbury next year, the 40th anniversary of the festival.

Friday June 25th, the opening night of the fortieth Glastonbury Festival, is the day to mark in your festival calendars. It will be the only date the band play in the UK and Ireland next year.

  9. Bollix -- I did say a while ago I think they will be like Bruce was and do Glastonbury - at least the Boss did London Calling , Glasgow & Dublin after UK stadium shows the previous year.

Not good for UK Ireland fans
Won't be seeing them in 2010
  10. Is Glastonbury a good fit for U2?
  11. Not good enough I think. Anyway, its their decission...

By the way, I really feel sorry for the Minneapolis people attending the June 27th concert... The band will be extremely tired when they reach the US again... So poor people
