1. I want to take a moment to get everyone's take on what is my personal favourite U2 album: Zooropa.

It seems to be an album that divides people. Most people I've talked to have either never heard anything from it or dismiss it. I don't understand this. I find it to be a very strong, fascinating and challenging album. A truly exciting listen.

Perhaps I'm just strange, but some songs on here that seem to be almost universally reviled are among my very favourite songs ever, namely Lemon, Some Days Are Better Than Others, and Daddy's Gonna Pay...

How do the rest of you U2 fans feel about this album?

EDIT: Oops. Meant to post this in the U2 Albums forum, not the NLOTH forum. Can a moderator please move it?
  2. certainly the best album when you listen to it in a loop. no real stand out tracks besides stay and lemon (and zooropa for me personally).

not a real live album, they never got stay right, only numb (brilliant drums) and lemon worked well.

I think Zooropa defently a stand out track, especially the real rock out last 2 minutes. I know theres not really much love for the Wanderer but i love it aswell, a very dark but great way to end the album.
  4. I don't really find The Wanderer to be that dark, but perhaps I'm missing something in it.

I love the album for its continuation of the technology theme of the ZooTV Tour in songs such as Numb, Lemon, Stay, Babyface, and Zooropa. I also appreciate it's continuation as well of the ZooTV "disgust at modern times and alienation" theme in Daddy's Gonna Pay, The Wanderer, and Some Days...

  5. The lyrics do it for me, just this image of someone wandering alone across some desert waste land, though not really sure what the songs about.
  6. The Wanderer is really more of a sad yet hopeful song lyrically to me. When I think dark I tend to think more of songs that are extremely angry or violent or depressed.

Stay is a dark song to me. Wake Up Dead Man is as well. The Wanderer is more yearning.

Stays an interesting one, wouldn't call that dark. more sad. Though we'll agree on Wake Up Dead Man
  8. I believe the ending lines of the song imply suicide by bullet. That's pretty damn dark to me.
  9. Wow never really thought about the last verse like that. I suppose it's cos in the video, it's just him falling and getting back up

  10. Why do you think that ? I just listend to the song, but it doesnt really sound like that.
  11. Well i guess its how you interpret it, i thought it was a song about a troubled relationship, kinda ties in with the film
  12. This is a strange album for me as I always see it is a slight let down. I feel that Im not looking at it in context though. I didnt really see it as an experimental album at first and didnt really enjoy many songs.

When I first heard Lemon I laughed because I thought it was a joke, Id never heard anything like it before... but now I think its a master-piece. I used to like Babyface but Im not that bothered about that some much now, the same with Some Days.

Numb, I still dont get but Im trying, it is slightly growing on me. DGPFYCC is another strange one, I sort of like it now. I feel Stay is over-hyed on this site too and I think its ok...The bang and clatter bit I never thouught about but wow, thats cool.

Dirty Day has always been a nice dark one which was great live. The Wanderer is cool which Johnny Cash and the First Time is nice to listen to in bed.

Overall I feel I need to view this album in context, its purpose and relevance at the time it was made to get a proper understanding but as I havent done that yet it remains a little dissapointing for me. And I still dont fully get it.

Could anyone help me out please Thanks
