Start here, mainstream greats (I really hope you find the light with these guys...personal favorites bolded)

    1. Times Like These
    2. Learn to Fly
    3. Best of You
    4. Big Me
    5. The Pretender
    6. Wheels
    7. DOA
    8. Everlong (probably their best, cliched but true)
    9. Let it Die
    10. My Hero

    11. Monkey Wrench
    12. In Your Honor (They open an album with this....and it just f_cking ROCKS.)

Learn to Fly and Monkey Wrench aren't in your favourites?!!

  2. If Learn to Fly hadn't been on the radio every 5 minutes since it came out, then maybe. It's sort of an overrated song. There's MUCH better Foo material out there. I'd love to hear it live, and it'd be a first contender for any greatest hits...but my personal favorites? Not a chance.

Monkey Wrench is borderline favorite. Another one that I've played the crap out of, so it's too predictable for me now...but that's my own fault. I really do love that one though.
  3. Learn To Fly was my favorite non-U2 song for years...It totally rocks, so I forbide you to talk about it like you did above
  4. I saw the Foo Fighers play a secret show at the Roxy (in Hollywood) last Monday. They have been playing a few secret shows as warm up dates. They played the Troubadour (in Hollywood) last night.

The opened with all 11 new tracks from their upcoming 'White Limo' album. Loved every song. Great stuff. And then they played a ton of the hits.

I was there early (GA practice for the U2 tour?) and ended up front and center. At the end of '"Aurora" Dave Grohl's right hand swung forward and his guitar pick fell right into my hand. Good times.
  5. The Foos are okay but don't many of you find them a bit generic. Maybe I'm getting old but straight ahead rock is okay but after awhile I lose interest. Everlong is a true classic, however, while My Hero and Walking After You are solid. I agree with Eyes with Pride that Learn To Fly was indeed too overplayed back in '99 and its success may have owe to its humorous video - which also was too overplayed back when MTV/Much Music (I'm Canadian) played music videos.

I've been following the secret shows on Twitter...you're a lucky, lucky man Jeff. Can't wait for the new album!

    Generic? No.

Fun, eneergetic, and a fantastic rockin' night at a show? Definitely - Fun, eneergetic, and a fantastic rockin' night at a show?.
  8. Foos are far from generic. The radio hits actually do make them sound little bit that way...Transitioning from stuff like Everlong/Learn to Fly/Times Like These/Best of You, in terms of greatest hits, I guess it does sound mildly the same. But you can't blame them for what the mainstream selects as the sound-good songs from them.

Listen to songs like "Stacked Actors", "All My Life", or even the newer "Cheer Up Boys (Your Makeup is Running)" for some original rock n' roll. And "All My Life" is even a pretty popular song. THOSE songs are what that band can really do.

People are commenting on FF playing a song called "Buetterflies" which I've never heard, but is apparently an epic thing to happen in their fan-world, and also there's talk of the band brining back "Watershedd" which is a really old Foo song the fans have been seriously craving. So this tour will be huge for their die-hards. Talks of 30-song sets...
  9. Are the typos in those song names done purposely?
  10. Their last album was very generic in terms of FF in my opinion. They've done their style and didn't changed it of course, but songs like "Statues", "Home" and "Summer's End" have a nice "different" touch, with some blues and country on it.

Besides this, it's impossible not recognize a FF song.
  11. Although I've never seen them live, I don't doubt a Foo Fighters concert would be an good time - and yes, Stacked Actors is a pretty good tune. However, I rarely make time (nor feel the need) to put them in my car's CD changer. Besides, it's full of U2 shows!!!!
