2011-06-24 - Glastonbury
Tour: Various Dates
Songs played: 20
Audio recordings: 2
Videos: 1
  1. Unforgettable tour?
and both were in the setlist
  2. They were there biggest hits by far back then though their repertoire has increased by 3 times as many albums by now

  3. Haha I just dont see those 2 as festival songs I dont know why, but when I think about it I dont see U2 as a festival band . But still its great they are going to play there, maybe next year Pinkpop
  4. How cool is that anyway, seeing U2 and Coldplay in one weekend. Well worth any ticket price.

  5. if there actually were any tickets available not one single ticket anywhere on ebay.... where are the scalpers.... don't they want my money? lucky folks who scored tix when they went on regular sale
  6. seems a bit strange starting a second thread when this was discussed in incredible depth last year in that other thread..

anyway as i said (in much greater detail in the other thread) as far as their relationship with the general public in the UK goes, this is pretty much judgement day for the band. i mean if they were a band that just did their own thing and didn't care how big, successful and popular they were it wouldn't matter but unfortunately for them that's not the case.

probably the worst thing they can do is go out there and play a standard 360 set. another thing they should also not do is play a purely greatest hits set.. the best thing U2 could do at glasto IS throw in some of their more obscure 90's? stuff for the following reasons - the haters and doubters that will make up a large percentage of the crowd will be expecting to hear the songs they already know and dislike U2 for (songs that they have heard on the radio/seen on the tv in the last 10 or so years) - if they pull out some of their more interesting, daring, obscure stuff it will take all the doubters, haters and casuals by surprise and show them there was a different side to the band. obviously i'm not saying they should play a whole set of obscure album tracks and bsides and stuff from passengers but i think the should seriously consider throwing in 2 or 3 curveballs alongside the hits...

i remember back in 97 when they played that amazing version of Mofo at the mtv awards in rotterdam thinking, "i wonder how many people in that non U2 crowd expected to hear something like that!?!" i feel the same about glastonbury. they NEED to play that song! if they can open shows with beautiful day 10 years after it was released why can't they open shows with something like mofo again?!?

even if they play some of their more well known but forgotten (by the general public) stuff like HMTMKMKM for exapmple, i think it will still make people think "oh yeah i totally forgot about this song! i actually liked this song"...

i think the worst thing they could do is play a predictable setlist but unfortunately i fear this is what will happen... and their bound to play 'glastonbury' THE SONG too which will go down like a lead balloon....

this is their last chance to prove people's pre-conceptions about them wrong and my god there is A LOT of people out there with pre-conceptions. i've never known such hate for one band and specifically the singer of one band... this is there chance to convert a few people and make them see that bono isn't just a pretentious egomaniac preaching about poverty every 10 seconds, he's actually the singer in a really good band too!

We will probably get a greatest hits setlist, although I dont see Pride and SBS as festival songs.
When was the last time U2 played a festival???

Define "festival songs" what's the difference between that and any other concert?

  9. I dont know I meant I dont see U2 as a festival band, but I think the reason for that is that I have seen U2 on a festival

You are over analysing the whole thing U2 will pull it off as they always do,I have it on high authority that they have a major curve ball setlist planned for Glastonbury,a one off special that is nothing like 360,so just relax and enjoy the show.
  11. It's a big opportunity for the boys. My heart wants them to nail it but me head says possibly not. It will be strange seeing them outside their comfort zone. I just keep imagining Stuck and Elevation and it makes me cringe.

One thing is for sure though and that is a UK leg of 360 if the public perception is positive.

Why you want them to nail it?
