1. (Sorry if this topic has already been opened) I dont have time to get on here much anymore and search for a previous topic.

On the bonus CD of the re-released Joshua Tree "The Sweetest Thing" is on there. Is this the original of this song and the more popular one is a remake? Or is this one a remake of the original? The vocals in my honest opinion are aweful compared to the original Sweetest Thing that I heard on the best of 80-90.

    Thanks, Pete

the first realse of the "sweetest thing" was on "where the streets have no name" single. i think that the more popular version on the best of 80-90 is a remake.when the best of 80-90 came out they realsed the "sweetest thing" as a single.

There's also the real original version, the one before both of these, just done with piano and vocals:
    http://www.u2start.com/topic/588/. third post down.

I agree, vocals on the non-remake are awful. Not a fan of Bono's massive grunting.
  4. Both previous answers are basically correct.

The version on your bonus disc is a remaster of the version originally found on the Streets single as a b-side. So if that sounds slightly different that's why.

The version of Best of 80-90 was re-done in the studio at the time (late 90's - came out here same day as Popmart Video) as they'd never been happy with it (think Bono was hungover or something). So it's an 80's tune done by 90's U2.
  5. Random question, but does anyone know what is whispered at 1:57 to 2:05 of this song? (I'm listening to the Single Mix from Best Of 80-90)

    Was wondering the same
  7. 3 years and 7 month bump... Thus impressive
  8. Someone bumped like a 5 year old topic a week or two ago. May have been the job one.
  9. Speaking about long bumps... 5 years and a half.

    I just gotta say it:

The Sweetest Thing felt SO out of place in the I&E Tour, and not only that: most of the versions were terrible Something's definitely not right if you're proudly listening to a bootleg with the volume up and you feel the urge to turn the volume and skip one song
  10. Sweetest thing was not good at all this tour.
  11. It may not have sounded good, but there was something endearing about being in GA near the E stage in Chicago, seeing Edge try to start a crowd sing-along of the "woah oh, the sweetest thing" and only being slightly successful. And watching Bono play the piano and trip up over the lyrics even though they were printed right in front of him.
