1. I couldn't actually find a John Mayer-specific topic in the forums (if there is one feel free to close this topic and direct me to the existing one) but I figured there might as well be because I think there's more than a few of us who listen to this guy's music!

So a release date has been set for his new album titled "Born and Raised", which is May 22nd, 2012. Judging by the first single "Shadow Days", it sounds like John is going down a more folky/country route. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out since he's usually a pop arist or blues artist. Here's the album cover and the tracklisting for the new album, and a link to the new single.

    1. Queen of California

    2. The Age of Worry

    3. Shadow Days

    4. Speak for Me

    5. Something Like Olivia

    6. Born and Raised

    7. If I Ever Get Around To Living

    8. Love is a Verb

    9. Walt Grace’s Submarine Test, January 1967

    10. Whisky, Whisky, Whisky

    11. A Face To Call Home

    12. Born and Raised (Reprise)

  2. I encouraged Matt to open a JM topic months ago, but he refused to do it, since there were no news or upcoming album. Now there are, so this topic is welcome I really like his music, although I dislike him pretty much
  3. Continuum and Battle Studies (I think thatz the title) are pretty awesome recordings. Looking forward to this one also.

Why do you dislike him Sergio? From what I've seen from interviews he seems to have a nice humour.
  4. I figured Mayer was done. Not that I care either way since I think he's really dull..
  5. John Mayer + Country = odd combination. I like all of his previous stuff except Heavier Things (with the exception of Bigger than my Body), and he has an amazing live sound, but I'm not sure how I feel about this adventure yet. Definitely nothing like hes done before. I'm hoping it turns out to be something like a Ryan Adams CD, if you have ever given him a listen.

I'm on the same page. Country/Folk is the one type of music I just never talk about. There are types of music I love and talk about, music I hate and talk about, and country just has it's own spot simply because it's just alien to me, I can't get into it and I can't stand it.

I'm hoping Shadow Days is the most country-esque song on the entire album, because anything more than that and I'll probably check out. I've been waiting a while for Mayer's next album (big fan) and this wasn't at ALL what I was expecting. I remember reading an interview after Battle Studies came out, and in it he was saying that after Battle Studies, because it's more of a pop effort, he'd have to bust out a big guitar album again full of solos and great riffs and licks (much like Continuum). If I'm to base his new sound off of Shadow Days, sounds like he changed his mind at some point!

The important thing is not to "check out" before I've checked out the album, and I'm pretty pumped to see how it is. Shadow Days is country, but it's John Mayer country (if that makes sense), and for that matter the whole album might be John Mayer country and for that reason I might be able to get into it. I'm hoping it's more along the lines of Neil Young and Dylan rather than Willie Nelson or John Denver
  7. I could go on and on and on about Mayer, having seen him several times and having heard everything he's ever recorded....but I'm tired

I have second row tickets to an upcoming show, pretty stoked.

Exactly what I was about to write.

I have all his albums and dvds. Really like his music, but I don't have a favorite album. Bigger Than My Body is my favorite song, and I think his one of the greatest guitar players of "modern music".

About his new song, it's an ok song for me (at least till now). Let's see how the new album will sound...Really can't wait to hear it
  9. Has he cancelled his tour? Why???
  10. Throat problems.

Same ones he's been having forever. Which means he knew he had them when he scheduled the tour and shouldn't have assumed he'd be okay by tour time. Which he clearly isnt.

    Be more responsible.
  11. That's not nice. Which kind of problems? Sore throat or something worse?

  12. Way worse; he has a granuloma formed in his vocal cords. A serious problem that is very difficult to rid yourself of and requires surgeries. I feel terribly for him and know he didn't mean to do this, but something that serious requires more responsibility than booking a tour and getting everyone's hopes up indicates.
