Great profile and cover pics I'm more direct: u2santos. Anyone can find me if he knows the band I love plus my surname haha.
And yes, The Beatles still did covers sometimes, both in the first albums and live. They didn't transform the musical industry in a week. It took them several years. BUT they did it, and what has been the music businness from 1970 to a few years ago (internet has been the next great revolution after the Fab Four stopped making music) was mainly their merit (fault?).
Other than The Beatles, in my eyes, Led Zeppelin are the greatest band to have walked the Earth. The Beatles started the music industry and kicked off pop music, Led Zeppelin brought us rock (heavy metal too).
The reason why I love Rick's quote is that it could apply to any musical artist that truly speaks to you. Art has always been one of the greatest achievements man has ever forged, but Music has always had something more. It's almost divine in power.
I know that he's specifically talking about The Beatles, but in the end, it doesn't matter if it's either them or U2 or Led Zeppelin or Pearl Jam or whoever else comes to mind.
As Kurt Vonnegut put it so eloquently,
"Music is, to me, proof of the existence of God. It is so extraordinarily full of magic, and in tough times of my life I can listen to music and it makes such a difference."
Nice quote. I also like this one, it's my signature in the tapers forum I'm in:
After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music.
-Aldous Huxley
And well, taking into account (and I think nobody can deny this) that The Beatles are a HUGE part of all the music we've heard since the 60s, one could say that they're pretty close to express the inexpressable
