1. Many thanks for this unreleased recording shawn .

  2. Downloading now !

    Thank you Shawn

  3. This was an untorrented recording not unreleased. This recording was on most peoples trading lists back the cassette trading days. So it is not a hoarding situation. It just is not a great sounding recording and it just did not get uploaded until now most likely because of that.

It is interesting to (sort of hear) U2 opennig for another act though. I wish there was a good recording of one of those shows. Wouldn't that be awesome?
  4. Wow, this kind of things never cease to amaze me. An amateur recording that surfaces to the general eye a full 32 years after it was made. Wow. Just wow. Even if the sound is not anything to write home about, it's amazing to have an old recording like this that has seen many a winter. And U2 opening for other bands just a few years before conquering the whole world is always funny to hear, as BlueRoom points out.

Thanks a million shawnim!! We will get this mirrored and uploaded to our bootleg section as soon as possible
  5. It surfaced to the internet 32 years later. General cassette trading back in the day this was on most peoples lists that I traded with. So the taper did trade the recording out and it was circulating. Like I said, it is not a "rare trade only" and/or hoarding situation with this recording.

I tossed literally hundreds of cassettes I traded for thinking most of them were out there and someone else would (at that time) put on CDR, which is the equivelant to uploading now. (Obviously I saved any master tapes I had though). In hindsite I probably had some that were not really rare but have not been uploaded. I think when uploading started most people were/are trying to upload the recordings that sound great to decent first. I had some recordings that you could barely tell it was U2. What is really the reason to collect that? Back then it was to just look good on a trading list or complete a tour or something. Those type of recordings had no "utility" value in that you would not sit and listen to the whole thing or have it playing the background while you were doing something else.
  6. @LikeASong: Will this recording show up under the Shows secion?
It doesn't look like it is there yet.

@Blue_Room: As for the utility of this recording, it may not be something that you put on your daily play list but it does have value:
Nostaliga - for those of us who were there or at other shows on the October tour.
Curiosity - for people interested in listening to different shows from different time periods.
History - Isn't that a big part of what this site is about? To record and represent the history of U2, especially their live performances?

Anyway, I uploaded this in case anyone else was interested since as far as I know there are no other recordings of this show in existence on the internet.
    Shawn
  7. sadly shawn & blue room there are very few of us on here who were around at the time of october eg in a leeds 'disco' in a shopping centre with potted palm trees. When popmart was just a twinkle in someone's eye. And i suspect there are even fewer who bought boy when it was first released. if it wasn't for people like us trading, copying cassettes, waiting for mail that didn't arrive, hunting down even the poorest recordings this site wouldn't have half what it does but we probably all have stuff that isn't on here. i know i've got tonnes.

You're right, we didn't add it to our Shows section. Give me some time and I will do it Thanks again for the upload, you're right in all points. Every recording is appreciated, even the partial or poor quality ones

Hmmm...I wonder where this recording went...

Not here 1982-03-13 - Louisville, Kentucky - Louisville Gardens ...

    Spoiler (click to toggle)
No worries.... @UnderARedSky just submitted this one...will see what can be done...
  10. 5 years ago I said "give me some time"... I didn't specify how much

Jokes aside, it clearly wasn't added back then, so thanks for fixing it - even if it's one lustrum later

Yeah, I hope to finish it still today, but there is quite some work to make it bearable to listen...

BUT..it is great! This show was just awesome and so full of energy. Probably with much help from the front who went completely nuts...

Bono: "I didn't know you knew who we were..."
    front Row: "NOOOO....!!"
Bono "Do we...do we get much played on the radio over here...?"
    Front Row: "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...!!!!!"

Seriously...this is one of the wildest audience recordings I've ever listen to

...but the RX 05 is magic again today... I concentrate on getting the loud whistles and screams out...some rough cuts in the loudest cheers...ah well... Bono crowd surfing in front of your handheld recording is not much though...

    [tech talk]
But already a "De-Click" operation improved this recording, and I was lucky to find the right speed quickly (-13/100 semitone to get A=440 & hum at 60Hz )

This is going to be the best 3 star recording ever...in a while...

    To Adam
  12. Bono: "How many people are in here? Probably what? ...six...seven thousant?"
    [Cheers from the crowd]
Bono: "Well...tomorrow morning, seven thousand people get on their phone to their radio stations...
    [Crowd over screams Bono!]"
Bono: "I hold you to that...right!"
