1. Every month we put an U2 fan in the spotlights, the fan of the month August of 2014 is user davec82. Read along for the interview we had this this U2 fan.

"I have been filmed twice for videos released by U2"

Tell us something about yourself, who are you and what do you do for a living?
Hi, my name is Davide and i come from Italy. I'm 31 (almost 32...) years old and i live in a city near Milan. I'm a telecommunications engineering and i work as software developer in a Voip company in Milan. This job might seem boring, but it doesn't...

How did you become a fan of U2, tell us how it happened?
I was a child, summer 1993, i saw Numb's videoclip on TV and that struck me. I thought immediately: "these guys are very cool, i need to know them". So, after 20 years, probably i can say that i know U2!

What are your expectations for U2's next album? Do you think it will be their last?
I'll be honest: I have no particular expectations regarding the new album, but I hope the new album will come out as soon as possible because this would mean a new tour. 5 years without tours are too many! I think next album, it will not be the last: they are too young to put an end to career and too old for a disbandment and start a solo career .

Did you ever have a special U2 experience like a live concert? Can you tell us something about it?
Not only one, for twice i have been filmed in video released by U2.The first is "Vertigo 05: Live from Milan" dvd and the second is in a video released on web site after the Turin concert in 2010.

What does your U2 collection look like? What kind of stuff do you have and how is it organised?
I've got all CD's and DVD's (including U2 subscription's gifts) but my favorite albums are Acthung Baby and Rattle and Hum because i bought them in Dublin, in a shop near river Liffey, using old irish pounds .

What is your favorite U2 bootleg, and why? Do you often listen to bootlegs?
I love all bootlegs where i attended, but the most exciting for me is 1998-02-11 - Santiago, Chile, with superb performance of Bad and Where the Streets Have No Name but, above all, how U2 paid tribute to the Mothers of the Disappeared.

Where do you most prefer to listen to U2?
Every day I have to take the train to go on the job, so I have enough time to listen to an entire live concert (depends on the lenght of the show or train delays ) from my smartphone. When i'm at home i prefer to listen to U2 using my PC for bootlegs and HI-FI stereo for CDs in my room.

How did U2start (or other forums) influence your music preferences? Did U2 fans influence you liking other artists?
Thanks to the forum you can discover new artists and it is nice to listen to new music genres. Because i like to explore new worlds, i often watch Youtube and you can find artists like 2Cellos (these two guys are really brilliant), for example, who play rock songs in a classic version (also U2's songs).

How different is U2 compared to other artists that you like?
I love the fact that, since 1976, U2 are Bono, The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. U2 can be taken as examples of what it means to be a family both in difficult times through the good times. Through songs instead they are a constant source of inspiration for many aspects that affect live.

What are your hobbies and interests away from U2, musical or otherwise?
I like to listen to Pink Floyd, Guns N' Roses (in their early days...), Oasis (until Noel Gallagher was a member of the band).
I play football (does not seem to be an expert given the results in prediction game ) and support F.C. Internazionale Milano. I like also F1.
Collect Lego from mid 80s and thank to these small men, i won a copy of Ordinary Love vinyl from U2's competition last year.

    Thanks for this interview davec82!

  2. Hi Davide! It was great to know you more.
Funny thing, we have something in common:
I also discovered U2 with the Numb video (I was 10 at the time), and I thought that Edge was the lead singer! I also thought that it was disgusting that a chick kissed his cheek where those smelly feet were, but that's another story.

Indeed, Popmart Santiago is one of the best bootlegs you can get, probably the one with the most tense, divisive and electrifying ending.

Looking forward to know you better.
  3. Another Inter fan? Ronnie will be ecstatic. Your job actually sounds really interesting
