1. Ok, there's a chance that maybe some of you have already read a thread similar to this some time ago in some other place.
But I thought it was worthy to bring it in here and since we have a couple of days to burn with no live shows, I thought this was a good time to do it.

    So bear with me...

    ---

    It's an alternate universe

In the late 70's a starting band named U2 has released some singles and demos, including songs like Red Flag Day, Civilization and Instrument Flying among others, with not much success until they finally released their debut album "Songs Of Innocence" in 1980.

They followed it up with "No Line On The Horizon" in 1981, "How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb" in 1983 and I'm sure you all can work your way up until their latest and controversial release of "Boy" in 2014, an album that was given for free to all iTunes users.

Since then, U2 has started to work on some new songs for a possible new album, and we already know the titles of some of these new songs even if we haven't heard them yet: "11 O'Clock Tick Tock", "Another Day", "Cartoon World" and some more.

    ---

    Ok. That's it.
    That's the premise.
That's the universe we're dealing with in this thread.

Now... with that in mind, the setlist of the current "Boy Tour", what would it look like?

Which songs are the old war horses in this universe? The classics? The "please not again" tracks? The fan favourite ones?

If in 2010 the "October Tour" became a Greatest Hits tour because the massive stage and the lack of songs from the October Album... which were those Greatest Hits?

What Sydney's 1993 Lovetown setlist would've looked like? 1998 The Joshua Tree Tour in Sarajevo? Vertigo Tour in Red Rocks back in 1983? McNichols Arena PopMart Tour in 1987?

    ===

Here's a quick guide in case you're interested in creating setlists for this alternate universe.

    1979 (Pre-Boy) = Songs Of Experience
1980 (Boy) = Songs Of Innocence
1981 (Oct) = No Line On The Horizon

    1988 (RAH) = Zooropa
    1991 (AB) = Achtung Baby
1993 (ZOO) = Rattle And Hum
1997 (POP) = The Joshua Tree
2000 (ATYCLB) = The Unforgettable Fire
    2004 (HTDAAB) = War
    2009 (NLOTH) = October
    2014 (SOI) = Boy
    20xx (SOE?) = Pre-Boy
  2. I'll start with one of my favourite shows (maybe because it was probably the first one I had)

    Classic concerts:
    Live at Point Depot.
    December 31, 1989.
    ZOOROPA

After the success of their 1983 production How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb, and the acclaimed 1984 album All That You Can't Leave Behind, U2 became the biggest band of the decade when they released Pop in 1987.

Some of the most well known U2 classics are featured in here, such as Gone, Discotheque and If God Will Send His Angels, to name a few, and the album was such a success that the band decided to film a movie for their next production, Zooropa in 1988, following the band during the PopMart Tour. This faced some harsh critics, but the album was still a relative success riding at the coattails of Pop's success.

The Zooropa Tour took them back to Dublin, where they played one of their most memorable concerts on 1989's last moments, the New Year's Day concert, broadcasted live to all of Europe.

It's the New Year's Day Party, and the live band is U2!!

    1. [WTSHNN] Auld Lang Syne (snippet) / Gone
Everybody's expecting it, yet listening the first riff of Gone is as exciting as always.

    2. [IWF] Cedarwood Road
You never get tired of a classic. U2's first hit is still a success everytime is performed live, after all this is their most played song of all time.

    3. [ISHFWILF] Discotheque
Pop is still fresh, and Discotheque is one of the most succesful singles of U2 ever.

    4. [MLK] Peace On Earth
Not the most exciting song, but Leave Behind was not that long ago.

    5. [OTH] The Playboy Mansion
Another cut from the band's best album so far.

    6. [Gloria] No Line On The Horizon
    An oldie but goodie

    7. [God] Dirty Day
First song in the set from the new album.

    8. [Desire] Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car
Another track from the new album.

    9. [AATW] Satellite of Love
This Lou Reed cover was often used in this tour.

    10. [AIWIY/BAD] Stay (Snippet) / Walk On
U2 didn't played the full version of one of the best songs of the new album, but who can complain when it leads to one of the all time fan favourites like Walk On. Since that day on Live Aid, Walk On has become a staple of U2 shows.

    11. [VDL] Lemon
This is the album they're promoting, so it's great to listen to another cut from it... besides, it leads into

    12. [BTBS/11OTT] Mofo / Red Flag Day (Snippet)
Mofo always turns on the crowd. This is yet another all time classic track from Pop. This time a very small snippet of legendary track Red Flag Day also makes an appearance.

    13. [RTSS] If You Wear That Velvet Dress / Dirty Old Town
As usual, Mofo is followed by another classic track from Pop: Velvet Dress.

    14. [NYD] The Times They are A'changin' / City Of Blinding Lights
The crowd looses it when all of a sudden one of the all time classics, City Of Blinding Lights, starts.

    15. [Pride] Beautiful Day
One of their biggest hits since a couple of tours ago, this is a well known track to close the concerts with the crowd singing "It's A Beautiful Day" at the top of their lungs.

    (Encore)

    16. [TTATPG] Fast Cars
The guitar chords of a well known b-side track from some years ago starts the encore.

    17. [AOH] Some Days Are Better Than Others
The band decided that the encore is a great way to showcase some of the new album's songs.

    18. [WLCTT] Numb
    The new album fest continues.

    19. [LRM] The First Time
The concert is coming to an end slowing everything down with one final track from the newest U2 production.

    20. [40] Yahweh
There was no other way to close the concert. When the classic closer since some tours ago starts, the people knows that we've come to an end, although this time is also a time to go and "dream it all up again".
  3. It seems that their new song 11 O'Clock Tick Tock leaked on the net. It sounds mad. The boys are back to their roots as in Cedarwood Road.
Great idea. Will give it a try later.
  4. "Benjamin Button style"

extra points given for numb and fast cars.
think it would be great to hear numb after invisible on this tour
  6. Two classics!!
  7. Maybe the equivalent of Van Diemen's Land is Numb, Edge in the spotlight singing, but I see that you put Lemon leading into Mofo.
  8. Love it! Just wondering where to put Original Soundtracks: 1 (and Conspiracy of Hope). I mean, for me the 80-ies without Miss Sarajevo is like...ehm...like Bono without the shades

  11. Here we go. I'm assuming not only U2, but the entire pop culture did a "Benjamin Button":

    2015-06-03 Los Angeles Boy Tour

    1. [TMOJR] Out Of Control: The band starts with their last single. Some fans think it's not a good opener, but the band likes it.
    2. [OOC] TMOJR: A throwback with the band's first single.
    3. [Vertigo] New Year's Day: The band's last smash hit and the audience loves it.
    4. [ I Will Follow ] Iris: Hardcore fans are tired of it, but you can't go wrong with an early song about Bono's mom.
    5. [Iris] I Will Follow: We are surprised that this track works so well live!
    6. [Cedarwood Road] Twilight: A great rocking song all about their early days. Best live material from Boy so far.
    7. [SFS] The Ocean: Quiet and beautiful new song.
    8. [SBS] Love And Peace Or Else: "Bolero" version, some fans are not happy it's not the usual rocking version.
    9. [RBW] A Day Without Me: Boy's darkest song about despair and leaving the world.
    10. UTEOTW -same-.
    11. [Invisible] 11 O'Clock: A song not in the Boy album, but released a few months before it.
12, 13: EBTTRT, MW no change.
    14. [Volcano] Another Time, Another Place: The audience was asking for this one.
    15. [OL] Boy/Girl: Not yet on any album. A love song about an ordinary boy/girl couple.
    16. [EBW] Electric Co.: The crowd is disappointed. They play this on piano, instead of the rocking album version. When Bono says "the Electric Coooooooo", it segues into...
    17. [BTBS] Please: U2's protest anthem since their early days. It's back after 1 tour and the crowd loves it!
    18. [Pride] Beautiful Day: One of the most well known U2 songs, and the crowd loves to sing along with it. It sounds better than other tours.
    19. [BD] Pride: Another warhorse from their last decade.
    20. [Troubles] Shadows And Tall Trees: Surprising second performance of this great song, featuring Agnetha Fältskog, from the hip group ABBA!
    21. [WOWY] If God Will Send His Angels: The hardcore fans are tired of this classic, but the crowd goes nuts singing it!
    22. [COBL] Two Hearts Beat As One: After a speech by Richard Feynman, this song just puts everyone up, clapping and singing.
    23. [Streets] Discotheque: The quintessential U2 live song. A highlight always.
    24. One -same-.

The fans still moan about no Joshua Tree tracks, though.
  12. 16. [EBW] Electric Co.: The crowd is disappointed. They play this on piano, instead of the rocking album version. When Bono says "the Electric Coooooooo", it segues into...
