1. Every month we put a U2 fan in the spotlight. The fan of the month for October 2016 is user nunomoreira1. Read along for the interview we had with this U2 fan.

"U2 changed my life completely, [...] I've also met all of them several times and I got to know Bono really well to the point that now he knows my name and teases me every time he sees me."

Tell us something about yourself, who are you and what do you do for a living?
First of all, let me say that It's an amazing honor to be interviewed by this cool site and it's my pleasure to answer the questions.
My name is Nuno Moreira and I'm 39 years old. I'm Portuguese-Canadian and I'm a supervisor/ admin of a group of sales team. I'm also studying to become an electrical engineer in the near future.

How did you become a fan of U2, tell us how it happened?
This is actually a funny question. I got to know U2 through my oldest brother. He was the one that started to listen to them way before me, when Under The Blood red Sky live album was released. I actually didn't like U2 in the beginning because I didn't speak English at that time, so I couldn't understand the lyrics. I was just 7 years old. It was only when Achtung Baby was released (1991) that I got into U2 and I started to like them.

I still remember really well that day...I was living in Porto (Portugal) at that time and I was in my room when the video for "The Fly" was on TV. It was the new single for their new album Achtung Baby. This song was so different from anything I ever heard and the chorus was really awesome, I got hooked at that moment.

My favorite U2's song and of all time is "Bad"....I had to wait until 2010 to hear that song live for the first time and it was in Brussels....what a version that was!!!. Since I became a fan I've seen 48 concerts from them all around the world (including Glastonbury Festival in 2011 and IHeart show more recently).

U2 changed my life completely, literally for the better. I can't even imagine what kind of music I would be listening to if it wasn't of U2. I'm happy to say that I've also met all of them several times and I got to know Bono really well to the point that now he knows my name and teases me every time he sees me.

You have provided the U2 community with many great bootlegs (for which we are grateful). How did you get into taping?
I got into taping thanks to an old friend named Dana (also a taper). He was the one that helped the most to tape with the right equipment, but there were other people that helped me as well. Dana had/ has a great U2 collection and his recordings were very good so I wanted to have and to learn how to tape, as well as having my own recordings.

I started to tape with video first. When the 360 Tour opened in Barcelona in 2009 I filmed my first video of U2 inside the circle. It was a fantastic experience and I'm really proud of the video I did that night. The atmosphere of the show and seeing The Claw for the 1st time was all captured in this video that I did. That was probably one of the best nights of my life.

I now do more audio recordings and I've recorded some really special stuff like rehearsals, soundchecks and of course concerts. Some of the stuff I recorded was only rehearsed/ played 1 time and never released like "Boy Falls from The Sky" (with random lyrics), "Running To Stand Still (new arrangement), some unreleased songs (there are a few), etc. There's more and maybe someday I'll release something.

How difficult it is to tape at a U2 show?
Well, taping isn't for everyone. You need to be able to accept that sometimes you don't get what you're looking for, like a good (or rare) recording all the time. With U2 in some ways it is like fishing. You wait and you wait and sometimes you're lucky to bring the goods home and sometimes you're not. You can tape shows inside the place or outside the place depending on the equipment you have. I normally like shows with IEM and I've taped shows during nice weather and sometimes in the snow....that's how dedicated I am to taping if I like a certain band. For me it was really hard to have a good recording when I started. I had to try several shows until I got it right and I was pleased with my results. So if you're planning to be a taper, be patient and never give up, eventually you'll get what you want.

You attended the iHeart show. How was the experience?
Overall was really good but to be honest I was expecting more from them like a new song besides the usual hits. They had time to come up with something new since the tour ended last year and I knew they had new songs completed but I guess they didn't want to risk it so they played it safe. I was still pleased to be at the show for sure, I just felt the crowd didn't appreciate U2 because they started to leave before U2's set had ended which made me feel bad for them and it was very strange to see U2 to play only to a few people, surely not a full house.

What do you think of the I+E tour? How does it compare to previous U2 tours?
I've attended 18 shows on the I+E tour and for me it's one of the best U2 tours. I've seen them on different tours and it was always outdoors, but with this last tour, they are playing indoors and for me indoor shows are always better than outdoor shows.
The sound and the performance becomes more intimate and the band is closer to their audience which is always a plus!

I'm also happy that U2 played some songs that they haven't played for so many years like "Two Hearts Beat As One", "October", "Gloria", "When Love Comes To Town", "Satellite Of Love", etc. I'm hoping that U2 will play more not so played songs and even never before played songs when the tour starts again.

What are your expectations for the next album and the next tour?
My expectations are high since I have an idea of what kind of songs will be for the upcoming album. I actually believe it will be better than the last album. There will be more guitars within the new songs and a lot people will be pleased and will be more proud to be a U2 fan. I know there will be a song on the new album similar to "Mercy" and this is for me one of the best tracks U2 has ever created. If you liked "Mercy" you're gonna love the new track.

The band just celebrated their 40th anniversary. What do you think is the state of the band right now? Do you see them playing for a long time?
Wow, I can't believe it has been 40 years already! Kudos for them, for still having fun in what they do and to please the fans (some more than others lol) with their music. I believe the band still has it and can continue for at least 2 more tours, it all depends on whether they want to do it or not. They sure can in my opinion and I'm looking forward to see them again soon.

What does your U2 collection look like? What kind of stuff do you have and how is it organised?
Lol, it's huge!! besides all the audio worldwide known, I also have my own ultra rare stuff, never uploaded or traded because I rarely do that now, I don't have a lot of time nowadays but at some point I might share something unique that only I have. Maybe a new arrangment of "Running To Stand Still", maybe a rare soundcheck/ rehearsal or maybe a new U2 song from their recording sessions...time will tell

How different is U2 compared to other artists that you like?
I've liked many styles of music/ bands and I still do listen to some them once in awhile but U2 is where I find myself, what inspires me and what I'm always looking forward to. U2 is and will always be my band. No other band gives me goosebumps like U2 does and no other band will ever come close to. They are very special in every sense of the word!

What are your hobbies and interests away from U2, musical or otherwise?
I like skiing on the mountains, near Lake Louise, Canada, it's absolutely amazing, the view is just breathtaking. I also play soccer with my friends (my favorite sport I should say). I love to travel around the world, it's one of my favorite things too. I've been to many countries and I still have a few that I want to visit someday like Australia, Japan and South America. We'll see if/ when U2 goes there!
