    The night gave you song
A light had been turned on
You walked out in the world
    Like you belong there

For a young, still "innocent" Bono, life could be tragic, inspiring or a challenge, but he sees life as an open canvas, with well defined villains and friends, wars are waged between good guys and bad guys, but in that theater everyone has a clear role.
    As easy as a breeze
Each heart was yours to please

And then this older Bono is reflecting about a whole life that was full of happiness and sadness. It seems he is loosing faith in the future he is leaving to other generations. Old Bono is starting to think that, despite all his best intentions, what he did before, his role as a husband, father, rock star, philanthropist, may be in vain and he's worried he has not made any difference in the world. These moments of doubt do not appear as eruptions, but rather, are "little things that give you away" alone, at night, when you can't sleep
All my tasks are so thankless
And all of my innocence has died
    Sometimes
I wake at four in the morning
Where all the doubt is swarming
And it covers me in fear

I think everyone feels at some point that nothing really makes sense and the end is here (hell, I feel that every day in this crazy 2017). Sometimes you also feel hope for humanity and you think there's still salvation, that we can overcome whatever dark moments we are facing.
    Sometimes
    The end isn’t coming
    It’s not coming
    The end is here
    Sometimes

Anyway, that's just my 2 cents. Maybe I'm just interpreting the song as to how I feel in this era.
Wow. That is amazing César. Love it.
  2. A lot of what people are saying here makes sense.
But don't forget, the times have changed. It is more difficult to make a political statement then in the 80's or 90's. Most people don't care about others anymore, just about themselves...
And the band feels and notices that.
  3. tears in my eyes watching that video. This next album could be it for the greatest band ever
  4. I hope not...
But I must admit that during their last show, even I had the feeling I had seen it all... Which surprised me.
Maybe if they mix up their setlists more, I would have a different feeling. More new songs combined with old songs we don't hear every show. That's why I am happy with current setlist.
  5. Can anybody explain to me why there are so view new songs being played during their shows?
And no, not for TJT tour this year.
But for the shows the last 10-15 years.
It are almost always a limited amount of tracks from their last album and hardly any songs from the album(s) before. Only the singles...
    I don't understand it.

I think u2 always represent there new albums quite fairly, at least 7 soi songs were played each night on I&E tour (if you include invisible) and some nights they played more. I think songs from the albums before is more a case of how that particular album and individual songs are perceived, so NLOTH didn't exactly have a successful hit and when the band are already committing to a few album tracks of the new album there isn't space for the likes of Breathe or unknown caller.

Ok, i'll give you the I&E tour. But dropping every song from NLONTH surprised me.
But what I mean, why always the same classic tracks? They have so many other good songs...
Especially during the I&E tour I was surprised...
  8. I've been humming this one all day. It's simply beautiful. And if that photo is the album cover.... well, I just really hope it is the album cover. It's perfect, and it feels to me like it matches the SOI cover well, for some reason? My God, Eli looks like Boy-era Bono.

I think that's a case of the band not being able to just play a song without it getting a good amount of rehearsal time. I would love them to mix up the setlist more but then we'd maybe end up getting really average versions of songs if they couldn't dedicate enough time to it. At least by the end of a leg we tend to get really strong performances of the regulars they are doing. It's one of they topics that always causes debate but when your a band like u2 people are always going to have a difference of opinion on setlist choices.

For sure. But playing every tour the same classic tracks... isn't that a bit to simple?
  11. Are you on a wind up??
