I think the album version fits nicely on there but the acoustic version doesn't sound very Zooropa at all. Love all versions though, it's my favourite song.

Also grace seems to get quite a bad name but I think it's at worst a decent song and slots in perfectly between New York and ground beneath her feet. Just my opinion though, I would be bias because it's one of my favourite albums certainly my favourite u2 album since Zooropa which is on a par with it I feel as joint 3rd best .

It's definitely a polarizing album. I agree with you that it does in fact have a discernible theme/narrative, focused especially on mortality and forging a quiet sense of hope in the midst of loss. The title of the album fits this focus well. And even though I still list it as U2's worst album, I do appreciate many of its songs and can see why it resonates so strongly with so many people. More and more I also am seeing how it almost NEEDED to happen after Pop...musically, lyrically, thematically, etc...as a Christian myself I even personally like how U2's entire career from the 80s, 90s, 2000s and beyond can be seen as mirroring a biblical sort of spiritual journey...

But I'm with Gerard and others on ATYCLB still being the band's low point creatively, and I can't ever quite shake that feeling. Despite its inevitable sort of existence in the band's catalogue it just bothers me after I listen to th brilliance or Pop and their whole 90s output to then hear songs like Stuck, Elevation, cringeworthy lyrics from Walk On, Kite, songs that drag like Peace On Earth and Grace, fun but throwaway songs like Wild Honey, etc...

But I digress. That's why it's fun ranking albums and seeing how we differ!

Really like the analysis of ATYCLB...

When I first was getting in to U2, it was one of my favourites, now I pretty much never listen to it... After the first four big single tracks, I do really like the sort of 'morality and mortality' arc, even if Grace is one of their weakest songs. For me, Wild Honey is brilliant and injects a good bit of happiness to an otherwise VERY bleak run of songs. It's strange, looking back, that a couple of the songs almost feel like they needed to be split into two different songs (Walk On and Peace On Earth particularly). I think those two swing wildly between great, very emotional lyrics and mildly irritating lyrics, and something about the way the lyrics sit with the music... they just seem like two different ideas/directions got patched together into a single song.

My ratings are based on coherence, and full album listening experiences. For instance, TUF has some incredible strong songs (ASOH, Pride, Bad) which other albums might now have, but as a full album it lacks something compared to higher ranked albums.
