1. We have a new You Too poll, you can vote for this new poll on the frontpage and discuss it in this thread.

The question of this new You Too is:

You Too: Which Songs of Innocence reference do you like the most on Songs of Experience?
    - Lights Of Home ("Free yourself")
    - American Soul ("You are rock'n'roll")
    - 13 ("Song for someone")
    - I don't like any of these references

Please vote on the frontpage of the website, in this topic you can tell us why you voted for your answer.
  2. Lights of Home.

Free yourself came from Iris, a song about a lost Mother, Lights of Home is (in my opinion) all about his near death experience (s), part of which may bring him closer to being with his mother, but it's a way of his mother saying "it's not time yet, live your life, free yourself to be yourself, we will meet again".

    Too morbid?

I’ve went for Lights Of Home as well and like you’re take on it.
  4. 13. Song for someone, someone like me. Just lovely.
  5. Agree. Some for Someone/13. Probably my favourite track on SoE.

    Well said!
  7. Song for Someone/There is a Light takes the cake. I've grown to tolerate the Lights of Home one, but it's still cringey

You forgot about "Every wave that broke me" in Landlady

That's not really a reference to Songs of Innocence is it? Too subtle!
  9. None
  10. My favorite is the "Free Yourself" reference in Lights of Home. I had always loved the "Free Yourself to be yourself" line in Iris and to see Bono reference this line in a song about nearly dying, seeing the "Lights of (his mothers) Home", "I've been waiting to get home a long time" is just chilling to the bone.
