1. Seeing those pics I think the visuals will really be breathtaking, also remember this part from the official tour announcement on U2.com:

Staged in the round, the eXPERIENCE + iNNOCENCE Tour is a development of the unique and innovative staging of 2015, featuring multiple performance areas, a state-of-the-art sound system, plus an all new super high-res LED screen nine-times the resolution of the 2015 screen.

Will it just be an 8k screen?

4k was still in it's relative infancy when I&E came around. 8k obviously is too, but it was an 8K screen on TJT 30.

I wonder if they have just chopped up sections of the JT30 screen and reworked it into the structure of the I&E screen.

Apparently the I&E screen was NOT water resistant. Obviously they played outside and in the rain, during TJT 30 so that would make sense if they've reworked the screen.

Pathetic ppl discussing what the screen will look like I'm going to hear U2 play the songs not watch TV.Sad state of affairs when ppl are preoccupied with the stage setup the focus should be on the performance of the band.Id much prefer to see U2 on a completely stripped down stage with no frills that's where they excel sadly since Zoo tv they have chosen to depend too much on technology which can distract too much from what's going on musically,Slane in 2001 was stripped down as much as possible in the modern stage shows and it worked amazingly well the band were on fire as were the crowd with minimal distractions.
  6. ^^ I am in doubt, at one hand i love innovations and technique and making the most of that. At the other hand i think a creative band
does not need for that (you know, 3 chords and the truth idea).
It's the show that counts, not how many tricks you can make. But
U2 have never been shy of putting technique to their benefit. Give them credits on that.

Ummm. The band make more of the production than we do. And all we are discussing is what variation we are going to see compared to 2015 as the band have never toured the same production twice. Calm your tits Mr Purist.

We’d all love to see the band play on a flat bed truck but they aren’t that band. We can judge the performance when we see it.

I completely disagree with you, I think it’s possible to focus on both the music and setup with screens etc. The only disadvantage with screens is it tends to restrict them Setlist wise although they did throw in plenty of different songs here and there over the duration of the I&E tour. Slane was a great performance but I don’t think that was down to the lack of technology involved in the show, it was down to the band giving it 110%. I think nowadays the band don’t have as much energy as they did back then, which makes sense as they’re older, so that’s what probably makes some of the older shows stand out more but there was still some great I&E shows. If any of the E&I shows I attend are as good as the shows in Glasgow on the I&E tour I’ll be very happy.

Yes they are that band the first 5 songs on the TJT tour had no gimmicks or video it worked very well and there was an intensity and power that makes U2 special ,video screens are essential particularly in a outdoor show but they shouldn't swallow up the band something that happened to them on the Popmart tour it took them nearly 3 months to get the songs up to scratch they were so busy with their production props ,subsequently they scaled back on it for the next 2 tours and they played much better and weren't overshadowed by it.
  10. Is it the same set up as the ie tour ? Certainly looks that way .
Remember the car bomb going off each night on ie tour and the arenas walls literally shaking. Amazing
  11. A few points:

The band was 'involved' in roughly 5% of TJT30's production. Apart from Exit and Red Hill having more-or-less interactive screen content, the only thing the band had to worry about at all was walking up to the stage during the Streets intro. It didn't stop them from playing the same setlists night in and night out to bookend the album.

Except they're quite literally not. I'm not going to go back and find the interview, (I'm pretty sure it was with Adam) but he came out and plainly said that the experience is supposed to be theatrical and more than just a concert, which is why there's little setlist rotation. Them playing the first 4 songs without any tech was simply to enhance a huge production element of their show, which was the reveal of the 4K screen. "It being that way in the 80s" is a convenient excuse.

If that's not what you want, then fine, but don't try to make the band into something they've publicly declared they don't want to be.

Also, popmarter, I see your point about the production elements fucking with their performances, but it's a fallacy to apply that reasoning to every tour when PopMart was as unique of a case as it was. It had new technology that nobody could consistently keep working, songs that had barely (if even) been finished, Bono's voice in the worst shape ever...that doesn't apply to these later tours - specifically this one. We have technology that the band has familiarized themselves with over two tours and three years, a very polished album that's being touted on a promo tour, and Bono sounding pretty damn good when you look back at rough patches 20 and even 10 years ago.

I'm not saying the band is playing the best they've ever played or even close, but I'm also not going to blame it on the fact that there's a video screen hanging from the ceiling. I'm going to blame it on slightly older age, rigorous touring schedules, and burnout. I listened to a LARGE chunk of live streams from the I&E Tour and distinctly remember wondering not IF Larry was going to fuck up a drum intro in the opening 5 songs, but rather which song it would be that night.
