1. HAHA. This takes me back to last year! We’ve got some saying over produced and others saying “sounds just like old U2”. I also still find it hilarious that people can’t get behind multiple producers. I think it is very daring and RELEVANT to gonthis route. Different sounds, same theme.

    I’m really not sure which album I prefer most. I need to rank them honestly. I feel like I’m partial to SOI but I truly love SOE as well. It possibly didn’t have the staying power that Innocence did for me though. (Might also have to do with the fact that I didn’t get to see them on this tour.)
  2. whatever which is better, what about listening to each album as a different context with songs telling different stories?
  3. I probably agree to some extent with the original post. I think SOI is better because it’s a consistently high standard whereas SOE dips below average a couple of times. However I’d rate the high points of SOE better than the high points on SOI. I think both are a high standard overall but SOI to me is a true masterpiece whereas SOE is just very good. I’d stand by these ratings

    Songs Of Innocence

    The Miracle = 7/10
    Every Breaking Wave = 9/10
    California = 10/10
    Song For Someone. = 9/10
    Iris = 9/10
    Volcano. = 7/10
    Raised By Wolves. = 9/10
    Cedarwood Road. = 9/10
    Sleep Like A Baby Tonight. = 7/10
    This Is Where You Can Reach Me = 9/10
    The Troubles. = 10/10

    Average. = 8.64

    Songs Of Experience

    Love Is All We Have Left. 6.5/10
    Lights Of Home. 10/10
    You’re The Best Thing About Me 6/10
    Get Out Of Your Own Way. 8/10
    American Soul. 5/10
    Summer Of Love. 8/10
    Red Flag Day. 8/10
    The Showman. 5/10
    Little Things That Give You Away 10/10
    Landlady. 10/10
    The Blackout. 8/10
    Love Is Bigger Than Anything In Its Way. 10/10
    13 (There Is A Light). 8/10

    Average. = 7.88

    Disagree with some of your ratings, I think The Showman is one of the best from SOE, and sleep like baby is probably the best on SOI

    mix SOE and SOI, sleep like a baby tonight is top 3 easily
  6. The Showman is great, really don't understand why it's not been played this tour.

    I think SOE only has 3 good songs which are Lights Of Home, Little Things That Give You Away and Red Flag Day. On the other hand SOI is more consistent, it has 11 good songs, but across the board it doesn't reach the heights of the best songs on SOE which are the ones I listed above.

    I disagree.
  8. Accurate topic title.
  9. SOI is tighter and more focused. It is a fantastic album, with a great U2 classic (EBW), some great songs (SFS, Iris), three gems (last three songs), some very good songs (the rest).

    Like others mentioned, SOE is less tight. Americal Soul is just not good enough. The album versions of Lights of Home and Best thing suck. Love is bigger is OK, but cheesy and Coldplay-esque. 13 is just OK, even if it works live. Some great U2 songs, though: Lights of home (strings), GOOYOW, SOL, Red flag day, Little things (best song on the record with Lights of home (strings)), Blackout, Landlady, Best thing acoustic. One cute song (The showman). Some really great songs, but the album could be a lot tighter.

    love is bigger than anything in it's way, is an abomination, most blandest coldplay, imagine dragons pop rock crap I've ever heard, it has to be the worst U2 song since crazy tonight

    wow speak your mind man
  11. Lol why is this a thread
