1. In this topic you can post your comments/notes/observations etc.

    Thanks to everyone involved!
  2. Awesome. Interesting how they choose the setlists too. Looking at the chart it's a shame some of those songs never got played, or got played regularly.
  3. Brilliant essay..and that chart of songs is interesting as well.
  4. Great work Remy and everyone else. What a great read!

I really like the idea of the Joshua Tree tour as the middle chapter and the importance of both the Innocence and Zoo TV suites.
  5. An excellent and informative piece. It reminded me of being back in high school and how we used to dissect the words of Shakespeare or Milton line by line, stanza by stanza, to understand better what the poets meant. As the authors have so convincingly proven, there is a deeply thought out narrative behind this show and the set list is far more sophisticated than it appears. I'm not sure there are many bands out there who think so much about their song choices and and the story arc.

As someone who didn't see the i+e tour, I will admit that i was disappointed to hear those songs were no longer part of the European leg. But after seeing the shows in London and reading about why the Berlin suite was added; it makes absolute sense to me.

Maybe its because I'm only a few years younger than the band members but this album and tour resonates more strongly than anything since Achtung Baby and the Zoo-TV tour.
  6. Thanks for all of the work on this.
  7. I enjoyed it a lot, very good work to all involved. Interesting read, thank you!
  8. A fascinating read : I put my thoughts about the narrative structure of the show into a couple of my own pieces at :

    http://www.thefinalword.co.uk/content/view/1448/35/ : Berlin August-September
    http://www.thefinalword.co.uk/content/view/1457/35/ : Manchester, London, Dublin, Berlin October-November

Particularly, I think the choice of "Ode To Joy" between NYD/COBL has been chosen specifically for its role as the European Anthem, and the sentiment around unity and religion in the lyrics :

    "Thy Magic Power re-unites
    All that custom has divided
    All men become brothers
Under the sway of thy gentle wings."
  9. Great article!
  10. im wondering what is the source for the bit about Bono previously considering bringing back MacPhisto on both Vertigo and then 360 tour, and being talked out of it?
    I'm never heard this before....

Correct. It comes from someone in our crew who has direct contacts within the U2 crew. Some nice scoops in that article

Do you know who were the ones talking him out of it? I wonder if was Edge and Larry (band), or more like Gavin and Willie (production)?
