1. So we all have a story about how we came to U2. That's not what this is for. I'm curious what was your first NEW U2 song. I.E., the very first new song that they released after you were a fan. I'll kick things off. For me, after discovering U2 in the summer of 1996, the very first NEW U2 song that I heard was Discotheque. I remember not knowing what to make of it, but just being enthralled that it was all so new. I was still clawing through their significant back-catalogue at that time, but to have something that was completely new, like I was there to witness it, was just so cool to my 17 year old self. I remember being blown away by it, and just couldn't wait to see them live (10-26-97 filled that special place!). I was listening to it just the other day, probably for the first time in quite a while, with headphones (yes that makes a difference sometimes!) and again was just invigorated listening to it! What's yours?
  2. Boom-Cha
  3. Vertigo probably
  4. Ordinary Love for me (I think). I became a fan after hearing Get On Your Boots, after which I listened through JT.

I remember really wanting to hear the alternate version of Breathe that came on the Ordinary Love vinyl.
  5. My first NEW song by U2 was Numb.
I didn't even know there was an album coming out. My brother taped the clip off the TV and showed me. I watched it over and over, mesmerised and actually had all the lyrics memorised within a few days!
  6. Beautiful Day
  7. Numb
  8. Mine would’ve been beautiful day, I was already a U2 fan by the time discotheque came out in 97, but I wasn’t the super fan I was by the time beautiful day came out. I was a casual fan during the POp era, and then the best of 80 to 90 came out and put me over the top
  9. With or Without You.... I had already owned Unforgettable Fire on vinyl (a copy I still own today)....

In April of 1987, I went to the shopping mall with my family, bought the Joshua Tree cassette during that first week it came out, then ran back and sat in the van listening to it while they continued shopping. I was in a trance once I heard the opening sequence of Streets, trapped in that space all alone. Got through the whole album before they returned )))

Ordinary Love for me as well. The Mandela version of Breathe is cool, would love for U2 to include as an acoustic on a future tour!

If we're being technical, the first U2 release after I became a fan was I Will Follow live from Glastonbury.
  11. Discotheque for me as well. The year previous I had just gotten The Joshua Tree just for ISHFWILF, then stumbled onto Achtung Baby and knew that this was the band for me. Discotheque came out and the Popmart Tour was the first concert I've ever gone to in my life. 22 years and 14+ shows later finally got to meet Adam, Bono, and The Edge in person before a show on the I+E tour.
