1. Mysterious Ways never really grabbed me
  2. HERE WE GO:

Red Hill Mining Town - boring as hell

Wire - just...nope - it sticks out like a sore thumb on UF, too (good riff though)

Acrobat - Yes it’s great but nowhere near as great as many on here make it out to be

The Wanderer - it’s ok....it’s a weird song on a weird album, but not the same kind of weird, and I’m not a huge fan

Please - I won’t deny it, it’s a good U2 song, but it’s also kind of boring IMO

Moment of Surrender - Bono’s vocal performance (although in tune) is god awful, and it’s hilarious to me that he referred to his Pride vocal as “the sound of someone trying to sing higher than they can” - uhhhh, give this one a re-listen, man. Otherwise, the chorus rips off Pink Floyd, I don’t like knowing that Lanois came up with it, and the song overstays its welcome by a WHILE. The ending is great, but it should come a minute sooner.

    The Troubles - boooooring
  3. Man... this topic is a big oof. I guess that's sort of the point. So, in the spirit of big oof... here are mine:

Pride - Bono is way too overwrought here. It doesn't fit on TUF at all. My least favourite of U2's big hits apart, of course, from the bloody unkillable Elevation.

Angel of Harlem - At one point this was probably my least-favourite U2 song. It's grown on me a lot as I've come to appreciate more types of music but the studio version is a little too overdone while most post-Lovetown live versions are pretty boring. (Of course, it'll come on in a shop and I'll go mad for it because hey, it's U2!)

The First Time - It's nice, it's pretty, I like the narrative. It's just a tad tooooo slow and it feels sort of unfinished and it really kind of brings down the end of Zooropa, along with...

Dirty Day - I just can't understand why so many fans on this site love this song so much. It's got some pretty great lyrics, sure, but it's too slow and too quiet and where it is on the album just doesn't sit right to me. The Junk Day version is much, much better - Dirty Day is to me one of the biggest examples of U2 having a song with a lot of potential and just leaving it undercooked. A little more lively, a little bigger sound, and it would've been substantially better (see Junk Day, again).

Walk On - You know, I used to really like it. A lot, in fact. Then at some point I realized it was something U2 don't do very well... it was maudlin. There's some interesting bits in it - I like the beginning of it quite a bit, it's a neat sound. Overall, it seems like U2 had a more interesting, slow rock song and spliced it together with a syrupy pop rock ballad and ended up with what is just a little too... ATYCLBy, for want of a better way of saying it.

(I didn't elaborate on Elevation because... does anyone actually like Elevation all that much? Apart from Tim, of course)
  4. Most of Zooropa:
Babyface, boring and a text about nothing
Numb, somewhat mumble of the Edge,
Lemon, Bono is imitating a cat a cat on whose start is kicked. A song about Lemon...
Daddy's Gonna Pay For Your Crashed Car. A song about nothing and sounds like a centrifuge.
Some Days Are Better Than Others. It would have been a better day when they did not release Zooropa.
The Wanderer. Bono too lazy to sing this song or forgotten the lyrics and the rent of the studio ended?
  5. Songs i always skip are:
    Elvis and America
    Mothers of the dissapeared
    Still haven't found
    Heartland
    Wanderer
    Beautiful day
    Walk on
    Grace
    Man and a woman
    I'll go crazy...
    White as snow
    Sleep like a baby
This is where you can reach me now
    Troubles
    Youre the best thing
Get out of your own way
    Showman
    Landlady
    13
  6. For me, it's I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. It seems to be revered by many and is probably a little more tolerable live but the studio version has never appealed to me.

There's more I don't like but I thought the focus of this thread was songs where you're more of the odd one out in terms of disliking; almost being a heretic.
  7. Until the end of the world. I know it's a fan favourite and often referred to as a classic, but personally I can't stand it. I was delighted when they dropped it last year.

Mysterious Ways, Desire, Sweetest thing, Cedarwood Road, ABOY and I Still Haven't Found What Im Looking For also do nothing for me.

However their worst ever song, which should be completely wiped out of existence, where we should all get a personalised message from the band apologising because its so bad is.... The Showman.
  8. Yeah, really depressing topic if you ask me....

But if you must know: "Dirty Day" would be my pick

I like your comments and made me laugh, but from my personal side a bit more credits to The Wanderer (Johnny Cash walked by during recording I believe & U2 asked him to sing the lyrics), but also because I'm a Johnny Cash fan .

But I do not believe this topic is to discuss if the songs mentioned in this forum should be mentioned at all here or not!
  10. Tomorrow - had potential, but the song is lost in half
"40" - cool, but, would prefer any other music in the place
Please - just not worse than IYWTVD
Summer of Love - the weakest from SOE

but this topic is a matter of taste, it becomes painful to read how critical people are with wonderful music.
  11. Gloria has always sounded rushed and unfinished, despite the course of time still a weaker song in my opinion but has a charm to it.

Although it was nice to hear Acrobat live last year, I've not understood the fuss over this song.

Other songs I tend not to care for as much include, Summer Of Love, Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses (the Kindergarten version is much stronger), Beautiful Day, Wild Honey, Vertigo (Native Son seemed more interesting) and I Will Follow (Which has been played to death and not as dynamic as other material I suppose)
