It hasn't aged all that well and the album definitely has its flaws. But it was truly the last time we saw U2 being truly experimental. And the last time they worked with Eno & Lanois.

PS: NLOTH the track itself is still a banger.

Agree with most of it (especially the nostalgia). I think the album has aged well, but it's a bit of a weird one. Some songs, despite being really strong, drag on a bit, (UC and MoS, Being Born), while others (the middle 3) really feel out of place. NLOTH, Breathe, MoS, Cedars and White As Snow are up their with their best. Magnificent is a tad overproduced. I can't help but think that they certainly wanted to be experimental, but they also wanted airplay and not produce 'progressive rock'. It didn't help that they launched the biggest stadium tour ever with songs that did not fit a stadium set.

Probably their most ambitious album since Pop, but especially SoE feels more confident and finished.
  2. The album lacked a big anthem or hit single it got almost universal positive reviews on it's release probably better than any U2 album but Boots really derailed it straight away it put off the casual and even some of the die hard fans .Overall the album felt quite dark and muddy in places it wasn't the type of record you'd throw on at a party I think the band sensed that when they played it live to a less than enthusiastic reaction hence why they dropped most of the album from the setlist half way through the 360 tour .
  3. I think the album is brilliant but the tour for it seems like it didn’t suit the songs - Magnificent, Boots, Unknown Caller, the rearranged I’ll Go Crazy, Stand Up Comedy, and Breathe are definite big stadium songs... the rest are borderline (NLOTH, MOS) or not at all stadium songs. It was a strange tour for the album they made. It seems like 360 would’ve have suited Atomic Bomb much better than NLOTH.

That last point is correct. Mos worked on 360 but not Nloth.
  5. I'm still surprised, MOS did really work in the stadium setting but it seems like a song that wouldn't be suited to it.
  6. Thanks!

  7. Probably the best sentence that has been written on this board this year
  8. Haha what the hell is that U2.com headline Jeeeeeeeeeeeeesus.

I might consider buying the vinyl only for a few of the songs...but I don't know.

I couldn't agree more with this. I think I registered to U2start in 2008 (too lazy to check my profile at this moment) and I remember the build up to this album being very intense. I remember getting up at 3 or 4 in the morning to hear GOYB for the first time with a bunch of you guys, the hype around the tour, etc.

As much as I may criticize this album these days, you're definitely right - it was a really exciting time. I was also in high school at that point and it was all just...perfect.
  10. i can say that in these 10 years, Breathe, Unknown Caller and GOYB (that were my favorites) nowadays I feel nothing listening to them.

but, IGCIIDGCT and stand up comedy, have grew much more in me

moment of surrender and magnificent are still being great songs
