The reason I’m thinking they would wait until after the ticket sales have begun is to avoid the possibility of people skipping the show. I don’t think it would put people off attending anyway, or if it did we would be talking about 1% or something small like that but if they’ve already bought a ticket that makes it even more unlikely someone would give the gig a miss just because they’ve seen the dvd. As has previously been discussed releasing the tour dvd before a tour is complete wouldn’t be a first for u2 so it can’t be something they’re worried about sales wise.
  2. It would be very hard to come to actual understandings on that question.
  3. It's really weird to me that this hasn't been released yet. At this point I'd be more surprised to actually see it come to fruition than not.
  4. I think SOE being released so soon after and then the E&I tour made it difficult for them to release a dvd from a tour that had nothing to do with either. Now they can go back to branding there online platforms as JT and the focus is back on that. It all makes sense to me anyway.

That's a fair point, but I also feel as though it would've been easy and would have made sense to release it right as the Experience tour ended right before Christmas.

To me it makes sense to put out some Joshua Tree content again. Another way to promote the tour, get people talking about it. When the initial hype has died down and you want to get people talking again? Release a Joshua Tree home video and when that's being mentioned in media around the world include a few lines about the tour wrapping up this year...it's still on the short list of things to be released from everything I've been told...
  7. You'll have an answer to this @u2wanderer1but generally DVDs are a pre-Christmas thing aren't they? Capitalise on the silly season.
  8. Maybe they knew all along that JT OZ 19 was happening.
  9. I think we have to acknowledge that the tours, albums, eras are all living entities now. Even though we think Experience is over they still have to release the DVD and the subscriber gift. Only then will a fan get the necessary closure(lol)!.

I’m thinking there could be a little hint in here that you have a good idea about the release date but waiting for more sources or the go ahead to give us details. I mean that in a good way btw, it was good of you to explain in detail in the tour thread about how you go about sharing information, seems like you’re careful and responsible with it also respect people’s wishes not to share certain details. Now I’ll just be trying to read into anything you post to see if I can get some clues lol.

I look at my kids listening to U2 and for them New Year's Day is as current as The Blackout. I love that.

Originally U2Achtung was told November 2018, and I was able to confirm that. Was later told it was shifting to this summer to accommodate a theatre release. Anton Corbijn has made comments about that, so I don't think it's any big surprise. Last I heard was they were looking at this summer still but there wouldn't be any news on it until after the tour was announced. No update since I wrote this: https://www.u2songs.com/news/the_joshua_tree_2017_live_from_mexico_city_film
