    Boooom
  2. I miss it.

  3. It was just a different vibe back then
  4. Three pints and that wedding topic got me thinking about the Elevation Tour. Using a remix of your own song to walk on stage to, then opening with that same song is a baller move. I approve.

    Long live Elevation.
  5. I'd like somebody to tell the band that they are all men now and not a pop charting boy band.

I think every fan sort of thought that they would release an album in their later years entitled MAN but because they've never admitted to being all grown up then we never quite got that album title.

I actually think U2 did become men around the eras of ZOO TV and POP.

They then hit middle-age with ATYCLB and had their mid-life crises with the track Vertigo.

Now they have to be careful they don't dad dance into another poor album.

They are still the best live band I have ever seen but they were last cool in 1997.

The Edge can still rock that guitar like a teenager but that doesn't mean he has to dress like one.

And Bono used to be able to communicate to fans on the same level, but now what do we have in common with this millionaire who flies everywhere in private jets and mingles with the celebrity culture? Nothing.

I love ya Bono but please (no pun intended) stop telling me to give my money to charities while I'm getting my food from a local Tescos and your eating haute cuisine at a celebrity chef's restaurant, and to think of the planet whilst U2 AIR chugs around the globe polluting the rain forests.

And whilst you're getting ready to play the rest of the world then how's about you pop into Hong Kong and support the democratic protesters?

Yeh, I know the old Irish git does a lot and he's philanthropic and a humanitarian there are many other rock stars out there who do nothing but they don't tell me what I should do either.

I guess, really, I'm venting my spleen at him because I've never forgiven him for writing Wild Honey
  6. He's been a millionaire since the 80s and they had their own private jet on TJT tour in 87 so nothing's changed, they've always been out of step with the current music industry that's why they have survived so long I remember in 1990 they were written off by so many other new bands and by the music press who said there was no place for them amongst this new breed of bands who consequently didn't get past there 2nd albums before getting shafted by the record companies
  7. They have survived for so long because they have the talent - there's no doubt there

But I stand by what I wrote as I find the juxtaposition of Bono's honest good-willed philanthropy sitting next to his vulgar wealth something that I as a long-time fan - and a fan till the end - will always struggle with.

I think if you analysed in detail the work Bono does then you wouldn’t have this struggle. It would be very easy for Bono to stay quiet and just donate loads of money to causes and for it to conveniently become public despite him not wanting people to know about it. He wouldn’t get stick for that. Thankfully he’s intelligent enough to know that he can make a far greater impact by campaigning for things, spreading the word. Fix the problem rather than just throw money at it. Bono’s charity work will continue to make an impact well after he and we are all gone.

Let's get things right here, I am proud that our favourite frontman has such a caring and compassionate attitude to those with little, those who struggle and those who need help BUT I think a lot of it is just throwing money at a problem and when that money runs out then what do we do? And more importantly what do they do?

The old saying about give a starving man a fish and he'll eat for a day but give him a rod and he'll eat every day is hackneyed and stale.

Give a man a job. Give a man opportunities. Give a man an equal chance.

Flippin eck I'm sounding like Bono myself here

We need to change the world not feed it.

Africa is a continent not a country.

Parts of Africa carry more wealth than parts of the UK.

Bono should pin point the countries and the perpetrators within those African nations and not single out the problem as Africa all the time.

I was watching a news debate - which involved African news reporters and social commentators - and they find that people always label the problems under Africa when there is one African child walking miles for water another in another part of Africa walking along the street using social media on their iphone.

They said they felt patronised by the blanket views of the West, no matter how well-meant their concerns are, that we should help all Africans.

Bono, I love ya man, but throw off the shackles of wealth and discard your Westernised ideals and tour the world ala Ghandi and begin with yourself.

Walk the streets in robes and sandals and you'd get a lot more respect and a lot more attention than turning up in a rock star shirt by versace and skinny torn jeans by gucci no matter how well meant your actions.

We know that Bono struggles with this himself as his Bullet The Blue Sky megaphone 'argument' with his younger self shows on the i+e tour.

But when push comes to shove what would I rather have? A million Bonos or a million Donald Trumps?

There is only one answer to that

I think you’re wrong to suggest a lot of it is just throwing money at a problem. Of course money does usually become necessary at some stage but usually the most important thing Bono does is promote change. Whether that’s politically, or socially how we view things. I think Bono is far more intelligent than you give him credit for and uses that intelligence in a more effective way than you give him credit for when it comes to his charity work. I don’t see why walking in the streets in robes and sandals would gain him any more respect. If it does then that just says more (or less rather) about the people who are forming an opinion of him based on the clothes he wears. Anyway I guess it’s just one of these topics or conversation that’s always going to split opinion but the thing that bothers me most about it is the critics of Bono who if put in the same position wouldn’t do a fraction of the positive things he has for others. If Bono’s worst crime is enjoying the money he’s earned over the years and in certain aspects living an over the top lifestyle then I can accept that and be happy for him.

I didn't say Bono isn't intelligent but I must admit that the whole Aung San Suu Kyi cause did him NO FAVOURS AT ALL.

And to reference your reply I don’t see why walking in the streets in robes and sandals would gain him any more respect, I was making a Gandhi analogy and if you read any books on him then you will understand that to change things in his own country he decided to revert back to traditional Indian dress and Indian culture to be at one with the people and therefore to be part of a change not wear the suit and ties of the western aggressors.

Bono is a big fan of Gandhi so it's all relevant.

It's a weak argument to say that all critics of Bono wouldn't do a better job - how would you know?

If Bono is willing enough to elevate (no pun intended) himself to a platform where he has his say, his opinions and his answers then he's going to meet with people who are going to question him. He needs to be prepared for criticism.

How many times have the band played on the African continent? A few times ONLY in South Africa? Surely a pared down tour of the less wealthy nations would draw massive attention and highlight all those important issues of starving and dying children?

It will never happen and the 'official' reason would be that it wasn't manageable or it would be a logistical nightmare or there are too many security risks - but the real reason would be 'Oh wait, there's no money in that so scrub that!'.

You can see why a person preaching on one hand whilst accepting $$$$ in the other will have their detractors,

And we're not having this debate about Edge, Adam or Larry - and I wonder why that is.
  12. The Real Edge- you don’t half chat some shite 😂
