1. It's funny to me how so many U2 fans want them to explore more sonically, but the second they add a synth to a chorus so many go "BOOOOO". The chorus on that album version is unreal. It just soars. It's like driving out of the rain and into the fierce sunshine.

I did specify live in fairness. It works well on record. It turned into a nice punchy little live number when stripped back slightly. Sadly underplayed and likely never to surface again.

I know the chorus on the album gives the song a completely different feel to the live version I’ve gotten a bit more used to the live version now but at first it sounded like they were almost playing the wrong notes in the chorus live because of how different it sounded.

Fair point! And my bad, I wasn't necessarily targeting you - I've just seen maaaany posts regarding the synth and how people didn't like it. That's a fair point though, it almost sounds a bit like an earlier U2 the way they did it live, I just missed that synth part a lot. And we can definitely agree on that last part

That was actually my exact original feeling as well. The first time I heard it I was like "wait.......Edge what are you doing" - but yeah, it's just a little different.

Still though, the first time I heard that chorus on the album version it brought me to a different dimension. I was like "synth like THAT on a U2 record? Hoooooooly yes please".

Maybe it’s something they’ll continue to use going forward, they used it to great effect in love Is bigger as well, that opening just grabbed my attention, I can honestly say 11 songs into an album I was not expecting that, mind blowing. California is more subtle really but equally as effective, as you said earlier it flows and if you let it then it takes you with it. Can’t say a bad word about the album version of the song in general.
  7. They should've used the Dreamforce performance
  8. Yeah I would have preferred that, think that was Edge’s best work on the chorus live.
  9. Absolutely. Also with a great snippet.
