Haha, no probs. I had to check a few, but had a guitar stand-by here Sometimes it's fun to dive into some of these details
  2. I've definitely said this somewhere on another thread before (can't remember where/when) but I think it's worth noting it since we're on the basis of U2 songs - a lot of them use drone technique-type styles that you'd find in traditional Irish/Celtic folk music, which I've always thought was a nice way of tying j to their roots - it's why a lot of the songs are in E/A/D (or a semitone down for live performances) cos they are open string son the guitar so the Edge can keep a drone going, especially with delay effects, etc - the first one that comes to mind is the live solo in Bad up the neck when Edge keeps the A and D strings going, and in the intro to Electric Co., there are others

Nice insight! I think they definitely are trying to do that on some (or a lot?) of songs.

I have also heard that some chords were supposed to be better for Bono to perform in, which probably explains why there are a lot of songs starting in E, A or D.
  4. I wonder why none gig of the last two tours has been broadcasted on radio or TV. Vertigo had four (at a minimum), 360° four as well, i+e had just one, what about JT30 and e+i? U2 is lacking broadcasts!
  5. No demand?
  6. Well, in terms of audience, they (almost, I think) sold out every show from the past tours. Rock acts always have high demands of tickets, why would it be different in terms of broadcasts?
  7. They did have that U2 special (with an orchestra) broadcast on BBC One in 2017.

Okay it wasn't from a concert and the BBC do have a love affair with U2 but if that established on-air provider can set aside that time on their main channel then maybe they did feel their was enough demand?

The only thing that spoiled that programme is the awful - but harmless - Cat f**kin Deeley! Why oh why do they let this vapid woman interview them so much - it's like she's interviewing children not men.

But yeh, no concert broadcasts especially as the Joshua Tree lends itself to a time when the older generation of U2 fans would show an interest.

In the era of youtube, copyright issues etc. music radio broadcasts are decreasing in general imo, so U2 is just following the trend.
  9. pretty cool video
  10. 'If you don't experiment you die as a band' - Bono, 2001-11-09 - Salt Lake City

    Hmm
  11. Hopefully going forward they forget about trying to be relevant and competing with the current crop of pop stars the last time they had hit singles was over 15 years ago with Atomic Bomb ,Bono is too much of a dreamer the egomaniac in him thinks they can still have a worldwide hit but that ship has sailed a long time ago , no band over the age of 40 has hit songs anymore no matter how many of the hippest producers they hire .
