True - but you also have to realize (I'm sure you do) that you're the outlier here. You say the future is multiple formats - I disagree, I think physical formats will cease to exist, probably in the not-so-distant future from now. You're already seeing it with movies and video games - the push is for all-digital. We may never see a true end to physical releases, but it'll be a niche market compared to the alternative - like how records have made a comeback, but it's still a tiny percent of musical listeners who actually buy them.

This is the real reason right here. U2 are too perfectionist to be willing to release live shows willy nilly. They have to find the best version of a concert from a tour, edit it like fucking crazy so there are no mistakes, so that the mix is perfect, and then MAYBE they'll release it.

It's really too bad since if they asked literally any fan, that fan would just be happy to have ANYTHING lol. They really need to have more faith in themselves, and faith in their fans when it comes to compromise - 99% of fans don't care if Edge makes a mistake in a recording, in fact we relish it because it proves he's human haha.
Exactly. I am absolutely sure that they did not like the result of the recording at the mexico in 2017 and the delay is precisely for this, so they have to find some alternative.

No way Anton Corbijn has been spending that amount of time on the film without them releasing it, they’re just taking there time a bit more and finding a way to fill the gaps. There was a few people doubting they’d released the Berlin gig not too long ago as well, they were always going to release it.
  3. JT tour, I think it will be a documentary film for the cinema, with interviews and live shows.
no interest to release a concert which is 2 years old!

I would argue regardless of how old it is when released it will be an easier sell than E&I which is going to be not far off a year and half old when it is released. JT stuff will always sell well for u2. This is coming from someone who is more looking forward to E&I as well.
  5. They should release a rockumentary drama of U2 on their Joshua Tree Tour mixed with stops in Memphis, San Francisco and an abandoned train station in Dublin.
  6. I personally have zero use for physical formats as I don't have any cd or dvd players left. My car did not come with one nor was it an option. I had to sell all my other audio/video hardware to pay bills. Any blurays/dvds I had I ripped to my hard drive before selling for use on my media player which has 12 TB of storage attached to it. I have another 20 TB in my PC which I can transfer to the media player as needed.

I listen to audio files on my media player in mostly HD lossless formats and my phone has a DAC which also plays HD Lossless files.

So I would prefer a digital download release. I understand there are many who require it but if they release physical only then I am screwed unless I can find a rip somewhere. For example the fan club cds I was unable to play. I had to find lossless files on my own to be able to listen to the whole thing in high quality. At least they gave us the mp3s to tide me over until I could get the lossless files to listen in CD quality.

So long story short, whatever formats they choose to release future live shows in, they need to release it in digital formats as well or I will have to rely on other methods to acquire it. I would gladly give U2 all my entertainment dollars but if there is no option to download/stream it then I am not going to buy a physical product I have no way of using.

  7. How many of us for years only had Party Girl from UABRS, including that bad note on the solo (which I still can't play ). Now for those of you who have your hands up (1,2,3.....98%) keep your hand up if you cared (1,2,3...Sergio).....Then again, I may be dating myself here. I did just hit 40 on the weekend.

Yes, we know that, but precisely because he has spent so much time working on it, it makes me think there was a plan B. They also filmed the San Diego show, and others in South America. I went to three shows in sao paulo and they recorded every shows. I believe a Plan B could be a set with songs played in many different cities and this could have been turned into a super documentary. And that's all I don't want ...

I also have a hard disk with all the shows stored, but having the physical stuff delights me for being a collector.

I've been to the United States (Boston, New York, and Orlando), and I thought most people were like you and didn't buy physical media anymore. However, I was surprised to go to stores like WalMart and BestBuy, where there were big departments of bluray media (2k / 4k), and I could see that the demand is very large.

But I saw only movies, and very few music concerts. But each one with their peculiar taste, I have friends who don't buy media anymore either because they have streamings, youtube, but most still enjoy having their favorite movies on the shelf. As they said, several formats but the same passion.

Congratulations Matt, I too did 40 years old a few months ago ... as we said in Brazil ... the life begins at 40
  11. Happy 40th Matt and Anselmo Lopes. The forum dedicated this one to you:

  12. Thanks. 40 years old and U2 fan since 1991, when a watched red rocks on tv for the first time. I was 10 years old. By the way, this song on Under a blood is not from Denver but at a festival in Germany. Most people think all songs are denver, but only two really are.
